KENNESAW, Ga. -- For the second time this season, Kennesaw State sophomore Fermin Calvo Barcelo has been named the ASUN Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week.
 
Calvo Barcelo provided the clinching point in singles as the Owls knocked off Florida Gulf Coast, 4-3, last Thursday for the program's first-ever win in Fort Myers. That victory improved the Owls to 11-7 overall, 3-2 in the ASUN, and helped KSU lock up a spot in its third straight ASUN Tournament.
 
The sophomore from Argentina won a thrilling three-setter versus FGCU, coming from a set down to beat Oliver Landert, 4-6, 7-6, 6-4. Calvo Barcelo is 11-7 in singles play this spring (4-1 in conference) and is 9-1 in last 10 singles matches.

"Fermin has really been playing well for us, and this honor is well deserved," said Director of Tennis Eduardo Rincon. "I was proud of how he battled at FGCU with the match on his racket. That was a big win for us and puts us in a good position entering the conference tournament next week."
 
His overall singles record this season of 18-11 ties him for the most single-season wins in school history. Senior Simon Pritchard was 18-10 in 2014-15.
 
Calvo Barcelo, who also earned ASUN Player of the Week honors on March 15, has provided the clinching point in six of the Owls' 11 wins this spring. Pritchard has garnered the team's other two ASUN Player of the Week honor this spring (Feb. 8 and March 22).
 
The Owls host Mercer today, and wrap up the regular season Saturday at Lipscomb.
