BRASELTON, Ga. – Christopher Guglielmo and Pablo Rodriguez-Tabernero Torres led a solid team effort that helped No. 40 Kennesaw State to a first place standing after 36 holes of the 2017 ASUN Conference Men's Golf Championships that opened Sunday at the par-72, 7,032-yard The Legends Course at Chateau Elan in Braselton, Ga.

Behind Guglielmo and Torres, the Owls carded rounds of 285 and 283 for a 10-under par total of 568 and a 10-shot lead over No. 33 Lipscomb and No. 35 North Florida, who are tied for second at 2-over par 578.

Four KSU players are in the top six of the individual standings with Guglielmo and Torres tied for third following rounds of 69-72 for a 3-under par score of 141. Both players are two shots back of Lipscomb's Dawson Armstrong, who leads the tournament at 5-under par 139. Travis Trace of North Florida is in second place at 4-under par 140.

"Today was a long day with 36 holes but we played some very steady golf," head coach Bryant Odom said. "Having four players in the top 10 is more that we could ask for, but comes as no surprise with the power we have in this lineup. We have the depth that anyone can contend for medalist honors in each event. Putting it all together at the same time was the key to our success."

Connor Coffee and Jake Fendt are tied for sixth with 1-under par scores of 143. Coffee recorded rounds of 73-70, while Fendt shot 74-69.

Fendt nearly recorded a hole-in-one on the par-3, 124-yard seventh hole. His tee shot landed in the hole then bounced high in the air and into the right greenside bunker and a plugged lie. The tough break resulted in a bogey, but he went on to finish his round with pars on the eighth and ninth holes.

Teremoana Beaucousin is tied for 21st after shooting rounds of 75-76 for a 7-over 151 total.

"For tomorrow, our focus will be staying patient, committing to our game plan, and knowing what we can't control through the round," Odom said. "If we can stick to these principles and execute to the best of our ability, we have a wonderful opportunity of winning the championship."

The ASUN Conference Championships conclude on Monday with the third round. Kennesaw State will be paired with North Florida and has a first tee time of 9:40 a.m. off hole No. 1.
