The Kennesaw State track and field teams will travel to Charlottesville, Virginia to compete in the Virginia Challenge at Lannigan Field, April 20-21. The Owls have just two meets left until the ASUN Outdoor Championships.
Lannigan Field
Lannigan Field became home to the Virginia Track and Field teams in 1971. The new track surface from Beynon Sports Surfaces has eight 48" lanes and a 36.8m radius that provides an ideal training environment, while allowing for fast competition. In addition, all field events are within the oval and include two long jump lanes with 179' runways, two high jump pits, two pole vault boxes, two shot put circles, a javelin runway and a discus/hammer throw cage.

THE COMPETITION
The Virginia Challenge will feature 50 schools and 1,100 student-athletes in competition this weekend.
LAST TEAM OUTDOOR MEET
The Kennesaw State track and field posted many strong performances at the North Florida Invitational at Hodges Stadium on Saturday, April 8. The Owls won five events and set two school records at the one-day meet.
NEXT UP
The Owls will close out the regular season in Cullowhee, North Carolina at the WCU Invitational hosted by Western Carolina on Friday, April 28.
NEWS AND NOTES:
» The men's track and field team enters the week ranked 142nd in this week's USTFCCCA Outdoor computer rankings poll.
» The men's team enters the week leading the ASUN in nine of 21 events so far this season.
Cameron Bolden is tied for the lead in the 100m (10.75).
Jonathon Womack leads in the 400m (48.18). The Owls lead the 4x100m relay with a time of 40.91.
Dayo Akindele leads in the long jump (7.67m, 25'2) and the triple jump (15.24m, 50'0).
Chuck McConville leads in the shot put (15.53m, 50'11.5), while
Fabeon Tucker leads in the Discus throw (49.00m,160'9) and the hammer throw (56.19m, 184'4).
Joshua Mulder leads in the decathlon with 6201 points.

Dayo Akindele is currently ranked 20th in the triple jump, 26th in the 110m hurdles, and 64th in the long jump in the NCAA this season.
» Akindele was named ASUN Men's Field Athlete of the Week for the second straight week on April 12. He finished third in the long jump with his collegiate-best jump of 7.67m (25'2.0). That jump leads the ASUN by nearly one and a half feet, ranks seventh in the NCAA East Region and is 13th best nationally this season. The jump was also the third-farthest jump in program history. He also finished fifth in the javelin with a personal-best toss of 43.25m (141' 11") and 11th in the triple jump with a leap of 14.37m (41' 7.75").

Sean Blassingame improved their conference-leading time in the event with a time of 40.91 seconds at the UNF Invitational.

Jocselyn Powell leads in the 100m hurdles (13.64) and 400m hurdles (58.14). The Owls 4x100m relay (45.48) and 4x400m relay team (3:42.790 currently lead the ASUN.
Erica Sergeant leads in the pole vault with her leap of 3.82m (12'6.25).
Jordan Gray leads the ASUN in the long jump (6.03m, 19'9.5) and the heptathlon with 5377 points.
Morgan Campbell leads in the triple jump with a leap of 6.03m (19'9.5).
» Powell is ranked 20th in the NCAA in the 400m hurdles with a time of 58.14 at Florida Relays.
Jordan Gray is ranked 23rd in the country with her 5377 points scored in the heptathlon at the Joe Walker Invitational.
» Sergeant was tabbed ASUN Women's Field Athlete of the Week for the first time in her career on April 12. She won the pole vault after clearing 3.82m (12'6.25) at the UNF Invitational. That vault set a new school-record and is tops in the ASUN by nearly a foot this season. That vault is also tied for 52nd in the NCAA East Region this season.
» The 4x100m relay team of

Keaghan Peppers,
Alex Andrews and
Hannah Wood improved their conference-best time and collected a win in 45.48 seconds.

Hannah Wood won the 100m-dash in a time of 11.59 seconds which was good for second-fastest in school history.

Kidan Kidane won the 1500m with a time of 4:34.06 by nearly two seconds.
