KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State softball program will recognize five seniors prior to game one of Saturday's doubleheader versus Florida Gulf Coast at Bailey Park. The first game is scheduled for 1 p.m.
Taylor Denton,
Abigail Green,
Chandler Griffin,
Courtney Sutter and
Logan Viers are concluding productive careers in which they have helped Kennesaw State post 151 victories and average 30 wins a season, including a 31-14 mark thus far in 2017.
The following is a capsule on each senior.
Taylor Denton (2014-17)
Utility – Grayson, Ga.
Taylor Denton has distinguished herself on the field and in the classroom during her four-year career as an Owl. She has appeared in 206 games, starting 202, and produced a .343 career average, while becoming Kennesaw State's all-time single-season and career stolen base leader. Taylor is a three-time All-ASUN Conference and two-time ASUN All-Academic Team selection. Her outstanding junior season also included 2016 ASUN Conference All-Tournament honors, National Strength Coaches Association All-American honors and the Kennesaw State Female Iron Owl Award. She has twice earned NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete accolades and was named to the 2014 ASUN Conference All-Freshman Team. A native of Grayson, Ga., Taylor will earn a degree in integrative studies.
Abigail Green (2016-17)
Pitcher – Grandville, Mich.
A transfer from Columbus State,
Abigail Green is concluding her second year at Kennesaw State. After redshirting during the 2016 season, Abby has appeared 11 games, starting four, and recorded a 3-1 record and 2.05 ERA with one complete game and two saves. She registered her first two career saves while pitching in both games of a doubleheader last weekend versus Jacksonville. The Grandville, Mich. native will earn a degree in exercise science.
Chandler Griffin (2015-17)
Infielder – Dacula, Ga.
A transfer from Troy prior to the 2015 season, Chandler is a three-year member of the Kennesaw State softball program. Assuming a regular role in the lineup as a senior, Chandler has appeared in a KSU career-high 42 games, starting 37, and set personal-bests in every offensive category. She clubbed her first two home runs as an Owl earlier this season, going deep versus South Carolina State and UCONN. The Dacula, Ga. native is majoring in psychology.
Courtney Sutter (2013-17)
Catcher – Marietta, Ga.
Courtney Sutter has established herself as one of the most prolific hitters in Kennesaw State Division I history. During her career, Courtney has recorded a .313 average with 40 doubles, 32 home runs and 130 RBIs. She ranks among KSU's top 10 in career home runs and doubles, and is closing in on the top 10 in RBIs. The 2016 season has been a career year for Courtney as she has established personal-bests in nearly every offensive category, and leads the ASUN Conference in slugging percentage, home runs and RBIs. She twice has been honored as ASUN Conference Player of the Week. Courtney is a two-time All-ASUN Conference selection, including first-team honors as a sophomore in 2015. The Marietta, Ga. native earned a management degree and is currently in graduate school working towards a master's degree in information systems.
Logan Viers (2014-17)
Pitcher – Abingdon, Va.
Logan Viers has been a reliable and resilient contributor during her four-year career at Kennesaw State. She ranks among the program's top 10 in appearances, games started and innings pitched, and is nearing the top 10 in wins. In 97 career appearances, Logan has recorded 35 wins, recorded a 2.49 ERA and struck out 237. She earned second team All-ASUN Conference and all-tournament team honors as a junior in 2016 after posting a 14-11 mark and 1.65 ERA while making a school-record 40 starts. The highlight of season came on February 14 when she threw a perfect game against Alabama A&M. The feat earned ASUN Conference and National Pitcher of the Week honors. Logan also earned 2016 NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete recognition. A native of Abingdon, Va., Logan will earn a degree in integrative studies.
