THE STORYLINE:
· Kennesaw State fell to Lipscomb Saturday afternoon, 13-2, at Dugan Field in Nashville, Tenn., as the ASUN weekend series in now even entering Sunday's finale.
· With the loss, Kennesaw State dropped to 19-24 overall and 8-6 in ASUN play, while Lipscomb improved to 21-19 and 7-7 in league action.
HOW IT HAPPENED
· Back-to-back doubles with one out in their first at-bats, the Owls'
Garrett Hodges and
Austin Upshaw, who drove home the first run of the game, got the offense started early to grab a 1-0 lead with a pair of extra base hits.
· After three unanswered runs from Lipscomb's lineup, junior second baseman
Grant Williams laid down a sacrifice squeeze that scored senior
Corey Greeson, cutting the deficit to within 3-2 in the top of the fifth.
· The Bisons' bats, however, answered with 10 runs over the following two innings to take their largest lead of the series at 13-2 after six innings.
·
Jordan Krueger, an Acworth, Ga., native, worked 1.1 scoreless relief innings, allowing just two hits and one walk to keep Lipscomb off the board during his outing.
· RHP freshman reliever
Taylor Wilkes, a Jefferson, Ga., native, also worked a scoreless outing in the bottom of the eighth, allowing just one hit and struck out two.
· Offensively, Upshaw (3-for-4, RBI), Williams (RBI), Hodges (1-for-4), and Greeson (1-for-3, run) combined for five of the eight hits and two RBI.
