KENNESAW, Ga. – Following its big series win against USC Upstate this past weekend, the Kennesaw State softball team swept the ASUN Conference Pitcher and Player of the Week awards, the conference announced on Monday (April 3).
 
Logan Viers was tabbed Pitcher of the Week, while Taylor Denton was honored as Player of the Week. The Owls' seniors helped Kennesaw State to a 3-1 record that included a mid-week non-conference victory at Samford, and a series win over USC Upstate that gave KSU sole possession of first place.
 
Viers, who earned her second career ASUN Pitcher of the Week honor, came through in a big way for Kennesaw State as she posted a 2-0 record and 1.40 ERA. After limiting Samford to one run and striking out three in three innings, Viers came back to toss a complete game in Saturday's 4-1 victory over USC Upstate.
 
In seven innings of work, the senior right-hander scattered seven hits, allowed one run and struck out one. Viers' clutch performance came after the Owls suffered a tough 5-3, 11-inning loss in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader.
 
Denton, who was honored as Player of the Week for the first time, batted .462 (6-for-13) with three runs scored, a double and four RBIs during the week. She hit safely in all four games, posting two multiple-hit games, while scoring a run and producing an RBI in three of four contests.
 
During three games against USC Upstate, Denton went 5-for-11 (.455) with two runs scored, two RBIs and a pair of stolen bases. She was 4-for-7 with a run scored and two RBIs during Saturday's doubleheader.

The sweep of the Pitcher and Player of the Week honors marks the second time in program history that the Owls have earned both awards in the same week. April Keasler (Player of the Week) and Brittany Matthews (Pitcher of the Week) accomplished the feat on Feb. 26, 2007.
