KENNESAW, Ga. - The Kennesaw State women's lacrosse team finished out its 2017 and first with
Laura Maness as the head coach in exciting fashion defeating the Furman Paladins 13-12.
After trailing 7-0 to start the game on the Owls senior day, KSU stormed back to get their program-best eighth victory of the season.
A big part of reaching those eight wins was midfielder
Sydney Farwick. She was named Second Team All-Conference for the fourth time in her career after breaking a single-season ASUN record with 91 draw controls while also accumulating 61 points scoring 46 times and assisting on 15 others.
The team as a whole finished eighth in the country in draw controls winning 15.29 per game. They were also first in the country in ground balls picking up 24.65 per game.
Several Owls reached career milestones during the season.
Taylor McGhee and
Connor Zophy joined Farwick and
Olivia Hokanson in the 100-point club.
McGhee and Hokanson also scored their 100
th career goals during the season.
In ASUN play, the Owls finished 4-6, but four of those losses came by only a combined seven goals. Kennesaw State also defeated Detroit and Furman for the first time in program history.
The eight seniors will be hard to replace, but
Maura Palandro and
Izzy Palermo were each named to the ASUN All-Freshman team after starting in every game for Kennesaw State and being key players on the field throughout the season. In all, there were 11 freshmen that saw the field and eight of those players scored goals.
