Jacksonville, Fla. – The Kennesaw State men's and women's track teams opened action at the ASUN Conference Outdoor Track Championships Friday, May 12 at Hodges Stadium on the campus of the University of North Florida. Both teams posted solid performances on day one. The men added two more NCAA Championships qualifiers as well.
Team Scoring
The men's team leads after day one of the championships with 107 points and have a 63 point lead over second place North Florida. The women's team is also in first place with 71 points and 24 points ahead of defending champion Jacksonville.
Combined Events
Men's Decathlon (Through five events)
•
Paris Williams leads the decathlon through five events after scoring 3755 points on day one of the event.
• He won three events on the day in the decathlon.
• The freshman had three top-eight program marks in the decathlon in the event Friday morning.
• His best performance of the day came in the high jump where he had a season-best clearance of 1.96m (6'5).
• Senior Josh Mulder is in second place with 3676 points.
• His best event of the day came in the 400m where he set the conference record in the decathlon running a time of 49.34 in the decathlon.

David Lott is in third place with 3382 points.
Women's Heptathlon (Through four events)
•
Jordan Gray leads after day one of the heptathlon with 3378 points.
• Gray won all four events in the heptathlon on Friday morning.
• Her best event of the day came in the shot put where she had a new conference record and school record toss of 12.94m (42'5.5).
• Freshman
Jessica Watkins sits in third place with 2895 points.
• Watkins grabbed a second place finish in the 200m with a time of 25.08 seconds to close out the day.
•
Shakedra Robinson is in fourth place (2820 points) and
Alexis Starks sits in sixth place with 2580 points.
Medal Winners
• The Owls swept the podium in the men's long jump with
Dayo Akindele jumping 7.80m (25'7.25) to win gold and qualify for NCAA Championships while
Sean Blassingame who jumped 7.39m (24'03) and
Paris Williams who leaped 7.13m (23'4) took home the silver and bronze medals.

Brenton Rosa won the gold medal in the pole vault with an ASUN Conference record clearance of 5.06m (16'7.25) which qualifies him for NCAA Championships.
Hunter Arnold who cleared 4.96m (16'3.25) finished in second place.
• The Owls swept the podium in the hammer throw as
Fabeon Tucker won the gold medal with a toss of 58.66m (192'05).
Chuck McConville had a throw of 51.05m (167-06) to grab the silver medal while Darren Oniyirimba recorded a mark of 49.89m (163-08) to collect the bronze medal.
• The men would earn their final podium sweep of the day in the shot put McConville who had a toss of 16.00m (52-06) taking gold and Tucker (15.40, 50'6.25) and 15.06m (49'05.00) taking second and third.

Morgan Campbell jumped a season-best 5.93m (19'5.50) to win the long jump. Alexis-Hunter Lonon added a career-best jump of 5.76m (18'10.75) to finish second.

Erica Sergeant took a home a gold medal in the pole vault with a clearance of 3.90m (12'9.50). Freshman
Rachel Sherrill cleared 3.42m (11'2.50) to finish in third place.
• Freshman
Nia Seldon landed a toss of 51.04m (167'05) in the hammer throw to take the silver medal.
• Junior
Greta Pileckaite had a throw of 13.65m (44'9.50) to take home the bronze medal in the shot put.
Running Event Qualifiers for Saturday's Finals

Hannah Wood (11.60),
Laura-Maria Oja (11.87),
Alex Andrews (11.95)
Keaghan Peppers (11.99) and
Jirah Simpkins (11.99) qualified for the women's 100m final.

"We had a great day across the board. Every single event group performed very well which is exactly what we plan and train all year long to achieve. I'd like to recognize every one of them but there were too many terrific performances to mention. Hopefully the weather will hold out for us tomorrow and we'll get a few more NCAA qualifiers!"
