KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State softball program will have the opportunity to extend its season after being selected to participate in the National Invitational Softball Championship (NISC) following Sunday's announcement of the 26-team field.
 
The Owls will make the short trip to Atlanta to compete in Region 5 (hosted by Georgia State) that begins on Tuesday (May 16). Kennesaw State will meet the Western Kentucky-Alabama State winner at 4 p.m. (ET). The double-elimination regional also includes Georgia State and UT Martin, who will play at 7 p.m. (ET).

Tickets are priced at $10 a day for adults and $25 for the week, while student tickets from the five competing schools are $5 with a valid school ID. Children under 12 are free.

The six regional winners will advance to the double elimination championship round scheduled for May 21-24 at a host site to be determined.
 
Kennesaw State will be making its first postseason appearance since it transitioned to the Division I level in 2006. KSU made 10 NCAA Tournament appearances and won two national championships while competing at the NCAA Division II level.
 
Under first-year head coach Pete D'Amour, the Owls posted a 36-18 overall record and finished second in the ASUN Conference after recording an 11-6 league mark.
 
Senior Courtney Sutter and freshman Alley Cutting highlight the Kennesaw State roster as the duo was named ASUN Conference Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year, respectively, and earned first team all-conference.
 
The Owls enter postseason play with five players batting .300 or better, including sophomore Hannah Thomason (.373), junior Noelle Winkles (.346), freshman Olivia Tamewitz (.341) and senior Taylor Denton (.323). Sutter tops the club with a .379 average, 14 home runs and 49 RBIs.

Alabama State (SWAC; 21-33)
Western Kentucky (C-USA; 29-29)
Georgia State (Sun Belt; 34-23)
UT Martin (Ohio Valley; 39-18)  
 
Georgia State is the only team in Region 5 that Kennesaw State played during the 2017 season and the Owls split with the Panthers as both teams won on their home fields.
