Kennesaw State heads across Atlanta to take on in-state rival Mercer to wrap-up its 2017 non-conference schedule, taking on the Bears at Claude Smith Stadium Tuesday evening. The Owls are coming off a 2-1 weekend at NJIT where they outscored the Highlanders 30-11 while batting .370 as a team. Tuesday's tilt will provide live stats and can be heard via radio by Mercer Athletics.

 ON DECK

  1. Kennesaw State's offense sizzled over the weekend, batting .370 as a team, out-hitting NJIT 40-20 and outscoring the Highlanders 30-11. The Owls totaled 12 doubles, one triple and four home runs to slug .611 over the three games.
  2. The Black and Gold enter their final road game of the season batting .290 as a team, outscoring opponents 126-118 and out-hitting teams 214-194 in 21 road games. The Owls have totaled 37 doubles, two triples and 22 home runs on the road.
  3. Overall, Kennesaw State's offense enters the week batting .289 as a team, out-hitting opponents 487-431 and outscoring teams by four. The Owls have totaled 92 doubles, nine triples and a ASUN-leading 48 home runs.
  4. The Owls continued to jump out in front early, scoring first in all three games at NJIT. KSU has outscored opponents 43-13 in the first inning and 81-38 over the first two frames – going 18-11 when scoring the first runs in a ballgame this season.
  5. Chris Erwin not only picked up his first save of the season Sunday, but went 8-for-11 (.727), scoring a team-high seven runs, totaling four doubles, three RBI and four walks over the weekend at NJIT.
  6. Austin Upshaw totaled four doubles at NJIT last weekend, adding to his career-high 17 doubles. The junior first baseman ranks third on the roster with a .330 batting average, first in hits (62), doubles (17), and second in RBI (38).
  7. Taylor Allum added to his home run total over the weekend, now sitting at a career-high 14. The junior OF is two long balls away from setting KSU's single-season record for most HR. He ranks first in the ASUN and 35th in the country in total HR, and first in the conference averaging 0.30 HR per game.
  8. Head Coach Mike Sansing is the reigning ASUN Coach of the Year, winning his first honors since Kennesaw State joined the ASUN in 2006. He is the second-youngest coach on the 1,000-win list, and is one of 13 active coaches with 1,000 victories who have coaches at least 10 seasons of D-I baseball.
  9. The skipper won his 950th game Thursday (March 16) at Western Carolina, taking a 12-3 non-conference tilt at Hennon Stadium. The win also snapped a three-game losing skid in Cullowhee, N.C. Sansing now sits 36 wins away from winning his 1,000th career game in the Black and Gold uniform.
