Kennesaw State enters its final series of the regular season, welcoming FGCU into town with ASUN Championship seeding on the line. Both the Owls and Eagles have clinched a spot in the tournament next week in DeLand, Fla., but are fighting for positioning. The Owls can finish as high as No. 3 seed or as low as No. 6 seed. All three games can be seen on ESPN3.
ON DECK
- Kennesaw State enters its final weekend already having clinched a spot in next week's ASUN Championships, but will battle FGCU over the weekend with seeding implications on the line. The Owls can finish as high as No. 3 or as low as the No. 6 seed.
- The Owls, as a team, as batting .299, outhitting ASUN opponents 184-145 and outscoring teams 99-76 in 18 conference games. The Black and Gold are 10-8 in conference action.
- Overall, the Black and Gold are batting .289 as a team, totaling 95 doubles, nine triples, an ASUN-leading 50 home runs, and are outscoring teams 303-294.
- The Owls continued to jump out in front early, scoring first in all three games at NJIT. KSU has outscored opponents 43-14 in the first inning and 41-39 over the first two frames – going 18-11 when scoring the first runs in a ballgame this season.
- RHP Tony Dibrell has been nothing short of spectacular for Kennesaw State, posting a team-low 1.49 ERA in 84.2 innings. "Big Thunder" has totaled 89 strikeouts and three complete games. His ERA is ranked 7th in the nation and first in the ASUN.
- Taylor Allum sits at a career-high 14 home runs, ranking first in the ASUN and 39th in the nation. The junior OF is two long balls away from setting KSU's single-season record for most HR.
- Chris Erwin had a big weekend at NJIT a week ago in ASUN play, not only picking up his first save, but went 8-for-11 (.727), scoring a team-high seven runs, totaling four doubles, three RBI and four walks over the weekend at NJIT.
- Head Coach Mike Sansing is the reigning ASUN Coach of the Year, winning his first honors since Kennesaw State joined the ASUN in 2006. He is the second-youngest coach on the 1,000-win list, and is one of 13 active coaches with 1,000 victories who have coaches at least 10 seasons of D-I baseball.
- The skipper won his 950th game Thursday (March 16) at Western Carolina, taking a 12-3 non-conference tilt at Hennon Stadium. The win also snapped a three-game losing skid in Cullowhee, N.C. Sansing now sits 35 wins away from winning his 1,000th career game in the Black and Gold uniform.
