SUGAR GROVE, Ill. – Senior Christopher Guglielmo carded a 2-under par 70 to lead Kennesaw State during the second round of the 2017 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships Saturday at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Illinois.

An eagle on the par-5 18th hole to cap an opening-nine score of 1-over par sparked a charge on the closing nine as Guglielmo shot 3-under par on the front side to highlight a 12-over par round by the Owls, who are in 29th place with a 21-over par total of 597 after 36 holes.

Kennesaw State, which came into the second round tied for 24th, got off to a slow start on Saturday and was unable to build any momentum, shooting 7-over par on its first nine holes before finishing the second half of its round at 2-over par.

"We just didn't have our best today. The conditions and course were perfect for scoring and moving up the leaderboard, but unfortunately, it just wasn't our day to shine as a team," head coach Bryant Odom said. "Chris had a very solid round with a 70, and Teremoana (Beaucousin) posted a respectable 75."

The Owls, who are 19 shots out of 15th place, will be looking to make a charge on Sunday to move inside the top 15 and advance to Monday's final round of stroke play.

"Tomorrow (Sunday) we will go out with the mindset of putting together our best round of the season and seeing if it will be enough to move us up the leaderboard," Odom said. "They guys have performed well all year and I look for them to come out determined and ready to put together a solid round."

UNLV currently leads the 30-team field at 14-under par 562 and has a one shot lead over Oklahoma (563, -16).

Guglielmo (77-70) is tied for 80th in the individual standings with a 3-over par 147 total, while sophomore Jake Fendt (73-76 – 149, +5) is tied for 99th. Sophomore Pablo Rodriguez-Tabernero Torres (72-79 – 151, +7) is tied for 115th, while senior Teremoana Beaucousin (77-75 – 152, +8) and freshman Connor Coffee (75-80 – 155, +11) are tied for 124th and 145th, respectively.

Texas' Scottie Scheffler has posted a pair of 68s to top the individual leaderboard with an 8-under par 136. The Longhorn holds a one shot advantage over three players.

Kennesaw State will return to the course on Sunday for third-round play beginning at 2:35 p.m. (ET). The Owls will be grouped with Clemson and Penn State and begin play on the 10th hole. Live scoring is available at www.golfstatresults.com.
