ASUN Teams

KENNESAW, Ga.
– The Kennesaw State women's lacrosse team had Sydney Farwick, Taylor McGhee, Izzy Palermo and Maura Palandro honored with post-season awards at the ASUN banquet on Wednesday, May 3.

Farwick was named ASUN Second Team All-Conference for the fourth straight season and was voted onto the ASUN All-Academic Team for the first time. She set new career single-season highs in goals (46), assists (15), draw controls (91), ground balls (55) and caused turnovers (25). The 91 draw controls broke the ASUN Conference single-season record. The senior midfielder was named ASUN Defensive Player of the Week two times. Farwick is majoring in exercise science and holds a 3.46 GPA.

"I am extremely proud of Sydney for once again getting Second Team All-Conference," head coach Laura Maness said. "This season with 11 teams in the conference and only 3 guaranteed midfield selections on both first and second team it was a highly contested honor. There was a huge field of midfielders nominated and Sydney being recognized as one of the best in the league is impressive."

McGhee was named to the ASUN All-Academic Team for the third time. She has a 3.87 GPA as a management major. The four-year captain finished the season second on the team in goals with 43 and draw controls with 37. Her 49 points during the season set a new single-season career record. McGhee scored multiple goals in 12 of the 17 games and at least three goals in 10 of the 17 games this season.

"Taylor earning ASUN All-Academic Team for the third time is a testament to her leadership," Maness said. "As a team captain and a leader on the field, her getting that honor in the classroom shows that she does it all."

Izzy Palermo and Maura Palandro were both named to the ASUN All-Freshman Team.

Palermo was one of two unanimous choices on the All-Freshman team after finishing her freshman season with 30 points with 26 goals and four assists. She started all 17 games for the Owls and had the fifth most goals on the team with 26.

Palandro started all 17 games on defense for the Owls and finished second on the team picking up 32 ground balls. She also was third on the team with 15 caused turnovers while winning 16 draw controls.

"Maura and Izzy earning All-Freshman honors speaks to the future of our program, they both gained valuable playing experience right away and will continue to develop as key players for the team," Maness said. "I am excited to see what the future holds for them."

The team finished up its 2017 season last Sunday by roaring back from an early seven-goal deficit to defeat Furman 13-12.
