KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State head women's soccer coach Benji Walton has announced the team's 2017 schedule, which is highlighted by 10 home matches at Fifth Third Bank Stadium and matchups against three in-state rivals.
 
The Owls open the season Friday, August 11 versus South Carolina State at 4 p.m. before taking to the road for four straight contests beginning August 18 at Winthrop. KSU will then play three in-state opponents, traveling to Georgia State (Aug. 20) and playing Georgia Southern (Aug. 25) and Mercer (Aug. 27) in Macon. The match against Georgia Southern is neutral-site contest.
 
Kennesaw State opens September with four consecutive matches at Fifth Third Bank Stadium beginning with Morehead State on September 1. The stretch also includes contests against Southern Conference Champion Samford (Sept. 3), Alabama (Sept. 7) and UNC Ashville (Sept. 10).  KSU's final non-conference home match will be Sept. 17 versus Furman.
 
"I am very pleased with how our 2017 schedule came together. Without a doubt, our young team is going to be challenged week in and week out and that is what we want," Walton said. "We have four teams on the schedule that finished 2016 with an RPI in the top 100 and two more teams that were in the top 150. 
 
"The level of competition in our conference continues to get more and more difficult, and in order for us to truly prepare for the challenge that the ASUN Conference will demand, we have to play non-conference opponents that will continually put us to the test," Walton added. "I think we have accomplished that with this schedule."
 
The Owls' seven-match ASUN Conference schedule opens with a home contest against USC Upstate on September 22. Kennesaw State will then travel to Florida to play Stetson on September 29 and defending conference champion Florida Gulf Coast on October 1.
 
A three-game stretch against Jacksonville (Oct. 6), North Florida (Oct. 8) and NJIT (Oct. 14) will close out the regular-season home schedule. Kennesaw State concludes the season at Lipscomb on Oct. 21.
 
The ASUN Conference Championship opens with first-round contests on October. 27, with the semifinals slated for November 3 and championship match scheduled for November 5.
 
The Owls will make their 2017 debut with an exhibition against Tennessee Tech in Cookeville, Tenn., on August 8.
 
Kennesaw State is coming off a 10-8-1 record that included a 4-3-1 mark in ASUN Conference play and a trip to the conference championship semifinals.
