THE STORYLINE:
· Six early runs and five quiet innings from LHP Chris Erwin set the tone in a 7-1 Kennesaw State triumph over visiting Western Carolina Monday evening at Stillwell Stadium.
· A five-run third frame on five hits propelled KSU to its largest lead of the ballgame, backing a scoreless 5.0 innings of work from Erwin to secure the non-conference win.
· With the victory, Kennesaw State improved to 20-25 overall and Western Carolina dropped to 24-23 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
· Erwin, a Grayson, Ga., native, controlled Western Carolina's lineup from the start, allowing no runs and just three scattered hits in five frames.
· The lefty worked around eight baserunners to control the damage in his five innings, keeping the lead intact from the start.
· A sacrifice fly off the bat of junior catcher Griffin Helms –his 23rd RBI of the season – gave the Owls their first run of the game in the bottom of the first.
· The Black and Gold added to its lead with a five-run third inning, compiling five hits highlighted by a three-run homer off the bat of LaDonis Bryant.
· In the bottom half of the third, KSU's Austin Upshaw and Taylor Allum both drove home runs with RBI singles, with the addition of Bryant's homer, to take its largest lead of the ballgame at 6-0.
· Brian Exley and AJ Moore worked a combined 2.1 innings scoreless innings out of the bullpen, allowing just one hit, and Turner Watkins pitched 1.2 solid frames to keep the Catamounts in check.
· The Owls' Allum added to its run total with his 13th home run of the season in the bottom half of the seventh, giving KSU a 7-1 lead.
· Offensively, the Black and Gold totaled eight players with at least one hit, as Grant Williams (2-for-5), Greeson (2-for-4), Allum (2-for-3, 2 RBI), Terence Norman (2-for-4) and Bryant (1-for-3, HR) combined for nine of the 12 hits.

#NESTNOTES:
· LaDonis Bryant hit his second career home run, both of them coming in the 2017 season.
· Austin Upshaw extended his hitting streak to eight games, and has total a team-leading eight RBI and 15 hits during that span.
· Grant Williams added to his team-leading hit total with his 20th multi-hit game – which also leads the team.
· Taylor Allum hit his ASUN-leading 13th home run of the season, marking his first HR since April 14 at Stetson.
