KENNESAW, Ga. – A successful regular season was rewarded as the Kennesaw State softball team had a program-record seven players earn ASUN Conference postseason honors following a vote of the league's coaches, it was announced on Tuesday (May 9).
 
Senior Courtney Sutter and freshman Alley Cutting highlighted the list of honorees, earning Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year honors, respectively. Both players were tabbed first-team all-conference, while senior Taylor Denton, Olivia Tamewitz, sophomore Hannah Thomason and junior Noelle Winkles were selected to the second team. Katey Lynch joined Cutting and Tamewitz on the all-freshman team.
 
"These accolades speak to the hard work that these student-athletes have put in this season," head coach Pete D'Amour said. "The ladies are deserving of the awards, and it is a testament to the caliber of talent on this team. I am happy for all of them and for the team overall. This is a gritty bunch and I'm grateful to be a part of it."
 
The seven players honored eclipsed the previous record set in 2012 when the Owls had six players garner ASUN postseason accolades.
 
Sutter becomes the third Kennesaw State player to earn Player of the Year recognition, joining Keri McKee (2007) and Jessica Cross (2012), while Cutting joins Ashlee Burkett (2010) as KSU's only ASUN Conference Freshman of the Year recipients.
 
USC Upstate, which won the regular season title, led all teams with nine honorees, including Holly McKinnon (Pitcher of the Year), Megan Obier (Co-Defensive Player of the Year) and Chris Hawkins (Coach of the Year). Kayla McGory of North Florida shared Defensive Player of the Year honors.
 
The following are highlights on each Kennesaw State honoree.
 
Courtney Sutter – Catcher (Player of the Year)
Named ASUN Conference Player of the Week three times . . . Leads the ASUN Conference in slugging percentage (.716), RBIs (47), home runs (13) and total bases (111) . . . Ranks fourth in the conference with a .381 average and sixth with a .452 on-base percentage . . . 59 hits rank eighth in the conference . . . Has established career highs in every offensive category . . . Ranks 29th in the country in total bases, 31st in home runs and 50th in slugging percentage . . . Equaled a career-high with an 11-game hitting streak and had a stretch of reaching base safely in 15 consecutive games . . . .362 average in ASUN Conference play ties for fourth, while 18 RBIs led the league and 33 total bases were fourth . . . Three home runs in ASUN play tie for second . . . A career .315 hitter with 99 runs scored, 194 hits, 41 doubles, 34 home runs and 136 RBIs . . . Home run total ties for fourth on KSU's all-time career list . . . A three-time All-ASUN Conference selection.
 
Alley Cutting – Pitcher (Freshman of the Year)
Has had an impactful freshman season for the Owls . . . Twice named ASUN Conference Pitcher of the Week . . . Pitched a perfect game and no-hitter within the span of seven days . . . Perfect game came during an eight strikeout performance versus Dartmouth . . . Struck out seven in a no-hit performance at Belmont . . . 17-9 with a 2.28 ERA in 31 appearances, including 26 games started and 14 complete games . . . Has logged 171 2/3 innings, allowed 56 earned runs and struck out 167 while limiting opponents to a .227 average . . . Strikeout total ranks 34th in the country, while 17 wins rank 50th . . . Ranks among the ASUN Top 10 in ERA (No. 5), opponents' average (No. 5), innings pitched (No. 4), strikeouts (No. 3), wins (T3), appearances (No. 7) and starts (T4) . . . Has thrown 10 innings or more four times, including a career-high 12 versus Georgia Tech . . . Posted a 6-3 record and 1.90 ERA in 10 appearances during ASUN Conference play . . . Pitched 69 2/3 innings, allowed 17 earned runs and struck out 46 . . . Has recorded seven or more strikeouts 13 times and reached double-digit totals three times . . . Had a career-high 12 strikeouts versus UCONN and Georgia Tech . . . Allowed two or fewer runs 18 times, and five or fewer hits in 15 appearances.
 
Taylor Denton – Infielder (Second Team)
A three-time All-ASUN Conference second team selection . . . Has started all 51 games at third base and is batting .336 with 29 runs scored, 49 hits, career-high eight doubles, one triple and 20 RBIs . . . Has a .404 slugging percentage and .372 on-base percentage . . . 18-for-22 in stolen base attempts . . . Collected 14 multiple-hit and three multiple-RBI games . . .  Produced a career-high 10-game hitting streak . . . Batted .264 (14-for-53) with eight runs scored, five RBIs and was 8-for-9 in stolen bases during ASUN Conference play . . . Earned ASUN Conference Player of the Week honors April 3 . . . A .341 career hitter and Kennesaw State's all-time  stolen base leader and tied for first on KSU's single-season list . . . Has posted a .324 or better average all four seasons while playing multiple positions . . . Has scored 129 runs and collected 216 hits while stealing 80 bases in 92 attempts. 
 
Olivia Tamewitz – Outfielder (Second Team, All-Freshman Team)
NFCA Division I National Freshman of the Year Top 25 Finalist . . . Fastpitch News NCAA Division I Top Performer of the Week . . . Ranks among ASUN Top 10 in average (.361), slugging percentage (.554), runs scored (35), hits (60), triples (8), total bases (92) and stole bases (19) . . . Leads the ASUN Conference and ranks third in the country in triples . . . 10 doubles and 30 RBIs rank third on the tea . . . Has two home runs and is 19-for-22 in stolen base attempts . . . Hit total ranks 71st nationally . . . Tied for third on the Owls with 18 multiple-hit games and has seven multiple-RBI games . . . Produced an 11-game hitting streak . . . Has had three hits in a game five times.
 
Hannah Thomason – Outfielder (Second Team)
Putting together a solid season at the plate and in the field as the Owls' leadoff batter and center fielder . . . Has established career highs in every offensive category . . . Earned ASUN Conference Player of the Week honors April 17 . . .  Tied the KSU single-season stolen base record by going 32-for-33 . . . Ranks among the ASUN Top 10 in batting average (.377), on-base percentage (.444), runs scored (46), hits (63), triples (3) and stolen bases (32), while 1.000 fielding percentage (64 putouts) ties for first in the league . . . Ranks 28th in the country in stolen bases, 40th in hits and 60th in runs per game . . . Tied for third on the Owls with 18 multiple-hit games, and has produced hitting streaks of 10 and 12 games . . . Currently working on a team and career-high 12-game hitting streak . . . Batted .295 in ASUN Conference play with a conference-leading 15 runs scored, and went 12-for-12 in stolen base attempts . . . 18 hits tie for eighth.
 
Noelle Winkles – Outfielder (Second Team)
Has had a breakout season during junior campaign while batting in the middle of the lineup and playing left field . . . Ranks among the ASUN Top 10 in batting average (.356), slugging percentage (.617), RBIs (38), doubles (18), home runs (7) and total bases (92) . . . Leads the ASUN Conference and ranks fifth in the country in doubles . . . Has scored 30 runs and is 7-for-7 in stolen bases . . . Tied for the team lead with 19 multiple-hit and 11-multiple RBI games . . . Had a seven-game hitting streak and stretch of reaching base safely in 12 straight games . . . Has currently reached base in eight consecutive games . . . Batted .259 with seven doubles and eight RBIs during ASUN Conference play . . . Doubles total leads the conference.
 
Katey Lynch – Utility (All-Freshman Team)
Batting .313 with 18 runs scored, six doubles, two triples, four home runs and 27 RBIs during first collegiate season . . . Has a .481 slugging percentage and .359 on-base percentage . . . Has totaled seven multiple-hit and six multiple RBI games . . . .341 ASUN Conference average ranked 10th . . . Produced a seven-game hitting streak and had a stretch of reaching base safely in 12 consecutive games.
 
Kennesaw State is next in action on Thursday when it opens play in the ASUN Conference Championship Thursday (May 11) at Draper Diamond on the campus of Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tenn. The Owls (35-16), who finished second in the standings to earn the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye, will play either No. 3 seed North Florida or No. 6 seed Jacksonville Thursday at 11 a.m. (ET).
