7/18/2017 2:26:00 PM

KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State head coach Pete D'Amour continued to strengthen his roster with the addition of Maddie Roth, who signed a Grant-In-Aid, it was announced on Tuesday.

Roth joins the Owls program after two seasons at the University of Utah where she served as a utility player, seeing action at catcher, first base and the designated player position.

"We're excited to bring Maddie into the fold and are expecting her to add depth and experience to the catching position and provide some power to the lineup," D'Amour said. "Maddie is coming from a highly successful program and her sister played for me in college so she "gets" how I operate. I thank the Roth family for joining the program."

In two seasons for the Utes, Roth appeared in 45 games, starting eight, and posted a .182 average with a home run and eight RBIs. An NFCA Scholar Athlete as a freshman, Roth played in 30 games, starting eight at catcher, first base and the designated player position.

Roth enjoyed a standout prep career at Esperanza High School in Anaheim, Calif. where she produced a .350 career average with eight home runs and 81 RBIs. She posted a .408 average with eight home runs and 27 RBIs as a senior. A four-time all-league honoree, including two first-team selections, Roth was a top-15 Orange County player as a freshman and helped guide her team to three league championships.

A two-sport athlete who also played tennis, Roth excelled in the classroom, earning scholar-athlete recognition all four years.

With the addition of Roth to the 2018 roster, D'Amour and the Owls will welcome eight newcomers to a team that posted a 40-20 record and made its first postseason appearance at the NCAA Division level, advancing to the semifinals of the inaugural National Invitational Softball Championship this past spring.
