XC: Owls Announce 2017 Schedule

7/28/2017 11:55:00 AM

Men's Schedule | Women's Schedule

KENNESAW, Ga. -
Third-year head coach David Poteet  announced on Friday (July 28) the 2017 Kennesaw State men's and women's cross country schedule.

The Owls will host the inaugural Stan Sims Invitational on Friday, September 8, and the ASUN Conference Championships on Saturday, October 28. Both meets will be held at Sam Smith Park in Cartersville, Georgia.

"The schedule was designed to better prepare our runners for the ASUN Conference Championships and the NCAA South Regionals," Poteet said. "We have two meets on our conference championship course, which we will host and will also run at the regional course at the Crimson Classic in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The Commodore Classic, at Vanderbilt, will put our runners up against some very tough competition, and the two meets at the Jacksonville State course (Struts and Foothills Invitational) should provide opportunities for some good times on a fast course."

KSU opens the season at the JSU Struts Season Opener on Saturday, September 1 in Oxford, Alabama.

After the Stan Sims Invitational, the Owls head to Nashville, Tennessee to make their debut at the Commodore Classic on Saturday, September 16.

Kennesaw State will conclude the month with the JSU Foothills Invitational on Saturday, September 30. Two weeks later, the teams will compete at the Crimson Classic on October 13 in Tuscaloosa.

The 2017 NCAA South Regional will be hosted by the University of Alabama on November 10, with the NCAA Championships taking place just eight days later on November 18 in Louisville, Kentucky.

The men's team returns just two athletes from last year's roster. Senior Jordan Hand and redshirt-sophomore Logan Poteet, who redshirted last season after transferring from North Florida, will lead a very talented group that includes three freshmen.

The women's team returns three runners from last year's squad including junior Caitlyn Farrell and sophomores Saidah Grant and Bonnie McKinnon. They will be joined by a group of newcomers who will help strengthen the team.
