KENNESAW, Ga. – Year two of the
Benji Walton Era begins this week when the Kennesaw State women's soccer team returns to campus and holds its first training session in preparation for the 2017 season.

The Owls will report and hold a team meeting on Tuesday (Aug. 1) before participating in their initial practice on Wednesday (Aug. 2) beginning at 8 a.m. It will mark the first of 10 training sessions before Kennesaw State travels to Tennessee Tech for an exhibition on Aug. 8.

"We're really excited to get going and with preseason beginning this week we're just chomping at the bit to get started, get the girls on campus and get rolling," Walton said. "We have so many new faces on the roster so we're excited to get our returners and newcomers together and start building a team that will be prepared to have success this season."

Walton and his staff will welcome a roster that includes 13 returners and 13 newcomers and will look to improve upon the 10-8-1 record Kennesaw State posted a year ago. The Owls recorded a 4-3 mark in the competitive ASUN Conference and advanced to the semifinals of the conference tournament.

Ida Hepsoe, midfielder
Carly Pressgrove and goalkeeper

The group of newcomers have a local flavor as 12 of the 13 recruits are from Georgia, including six from Cobb County.

Kennesaw State will make its home debut on Aug, 11 when it hosts South Carolina State in an exhibition beginning at 4 p.m. The contest will be played on Field 8 adjacent to Fifth Third Bank Stadium.

The season opener is slated for Aug. 18 at Winthrop, and after four straight road games to kick off the season, the Owls will return to Fifth Third Bank Stadium on Sept. 1 to host Morehead State.
