KENNESAW, Ga. -- The Kennesaw State men's and women's tennis teams have earned Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic honors, the organization announced recently. It is the eighth consecutive honor for the men and sixth straight for the women.
 
In addition, 10 members of the men's squad were recognized as ITA Scholar-Athletes with three ITA Scholar-Athletes coming from the women. With 10 selection, the men matched Columbia University for the most in NCAA Division-I.

The 10 men honored for their achievement in the classroom were Jake Bouchillon, Lucas de Torres Curth, Simon Pritchard, Sam Slade, Corey Smith, Drew Lahey, Manuel Castellanos, Drew Wendel, Harrison Wood, and Miller Durham. The women's student-athletes were Elle Baker, Cristina Perez-Martin and Jada Tijani.

"This is another great indication of how seriously our teams take their academic pursuits," said Director of Tennis Eduardo Rincon. "I'm extremely proud of the student-athletes for what they've accomplished. It speaks volumes that both of our programs have a long history of earning ITA Academic honors, and we expect that to continue. The men tying the national lead with 10 selections is a remarkable achievement."
 
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All eligible student-athletes whose names appear on the NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA/CA JUCO eligibility form and have competed in one or more varsity matches must average into the GPA for the current academic year.

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters (including freshman thorough senior year).
