KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State women's soccer team officially began preparations for the 2017 season with its first training session Wednesday (Aug. 2) morning. It was one of two practices scheduled on the opening day of preseason camp.
Â
"The first day of preseason is always going to have wrinkles that we'll need to iron out and this year we have a young group. The enthusiasm and energy level and work rate started to show especially as we got into it. We got the nerves out early this morning so that's a good thing," second-year head coach
Benji Walton said. "If they keep bringing that type of energy and that kind of effort, we're going to figure it out.
Â
"We made some progress and we're going to continue to build on those layers as we move forward," Walton added. "It was a good first day and we're going to try to keep building off it."
Â
Walton and his staff will welcomed a roster that includes 13 returners and 13 newcomers and will look to improve upon the 10-8-1 record Kennesaw State posted a year ago.
Â
Kennesaw State will make its home debut on Aug, 11 when it hosts South Carolina State in an exhibition beginning at 4 p.m. The contest will be played on Field 8 adjacent to Fifth Third Bank Stadium.
Â
The season opener is slated for Aug. 18 at Winthrop, and after four straight road games to kick off the season, the Owls will return to Fifth Third Bank Stadium on Sept. 1 to host Morehead State.
