KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State head softball coach Pete D'Amour has added more experience to his roster with the announcement that Abby Deane has signed a Grant-In-Aid, and will join the program this fall.
 
Deane comes to Kennesaw State after playing her freshman season at South Dakota State in 2017. During her rookie season for the Jackrabbits, Deane appeared in 25 games, starting 18, and recorded an 8-13 record while leading the team with a 3.71 ERA, nine complete games and 117 strikeouts. In 124 2/3 innings, she allowed 124 hits, 66 earned runs and walked 61.
 
"Adding Abby to the staff this year is a welcomed addition. She threw a lot of innings last year and has the ability to get a lot of swings and misses," D'Amour said. "We were already excited about the pitching staff heading into next year, so the addition of Abby will hopefully make us even more competitive."
 
Deane was a three-year letter winner in softball and also lettered two years in soccer at Eureka High School in Eureka, Mo. She was named all-conference, all-district, all-region, all-state and all-metro in addition to earning Metro Pitcher of the Year as a senior in 2015. Deane also was selected to the 2016 Junior Olympic Missouri/Illinois All-Star Team, named the 2015 Wendy's Heisman Award school winner, and was nominated for 2016 Gatorade Player of the Year.
 
Deane holds school records for career shutouts (20) and single-season winning percentage (.950), and is listed in the Missouri state record books for most strikeouts in a seven-inning game with 19. As a senior, she posted a 19-1 record, 0.76 ERA, allowed 14 earned runs in 129 innings and averaged 13.35 strikeouts per game. As a junior, she struck out a single-season school record 246 batters.
 
With the addition of Deane to the 2018 roster, D'Amour and the Owls will welcome nine newcomers to a team that posted a 40-20 record and made its first postseason appearance at the NCAA Division I level, advancing to the semifinals of the inaugural National Invitational Softball Championship this past spring.
