Corey Smith will represent the Owls in Athens at one of the nation's most prestigious fall events. The SIC begins Friday morning on the UGA campus and runs through Monday.
Â
"I'm particularity excited about Corey competing this week and I know he has been looking forward to this day," said head coach
Eduardo Rincon. "Corey took a redshirt last year and has been working extremely hard for a long time. I'm looking forward to him competing and representing KSU this season."
Â
Four other Owls head north to Spartanburg to compete in the USC Upstate Invitational, where sophomore
Drew Lahey will join rookies Bryan Triana, Tino Dahlem and Austin Anderson. Action there begins Friday and runs through Sunday.
Â
"Our younger guys will get tested right off the bat," said Rincon. "USC Upstate does a great job putting a very competitive fall event every year and it allows us the chance to play quality matches and gain invaluable experience."
Â
The Owls are coming off a very successful 2016-17 campaign that saw them post a 13-8 overall record and go 4-2 versus ASUN teams – both school records for wins. Calvo Barcelo headlines the lists of returnees as the Argentinian tied the school record for wins in a season with his 18-11 singles mark en route to second-team All-ASUN honors.
Â
Following this weekend's action, the Owls are scheduled to compete again Oct. 3-10 at the ITA All-American in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
