KENNESAW, Ga. – With opening day right around the corner, the Kennesaw State baseball team begins its preparations for the spring schedule as official practice starts Friday (Jan. 26) afternoon at Stillwell Stadium.
"Our first official practice begins on Friday and I feel like our guys are excited to get underway. It's something you've been working on since August to get to this point," said head coach
Mike Sansing. "This is the time of the year where the guys have a lot of energy about getting the season going. The upcoming weeks will give us some good feedback of the guys and what they have done in the offseason."
The Owls are coming off another deep ASUN postseason run in 2017, reaching the semifinals of the Championships in Deland, Florida to finish third in the conference. Kennesaw State produced six all-conference winners, including Defensive Player of the Year
Grant Williams and first team members
Taylor Allum,
Austin Upshaw and Williams – with both Allum and Williams returning to the diamond in 2018.
The winningest head coach in program history and now entering his 27
th year at the helm, Sansing will guide the Owls on a 56-game slate, including 36 home games and 20 road tests. KSU also takes on 17 midweek affairs, with eight being at Stillwell Stadium that include matchups Georgia, Clemson, Georgia State and Jacksonville State.
"With the season right around the corner, the coaches, players and fans begin getting geared up for baseball season," said Sansing. "We are anxious to get going with the weather being great and get on the field to compete this season."
