KENNESAW, Ga. – In a back-and-forth game, Kennesaw State baseball fell to Jacksonville 10-6 on Saturday afternoon inside Stillwell Stadium. The loss snapped the Owls (23-15, 12-5 ASUN Conference) six-game win streak over the Dolphins (20-16, 6-11 ASUN). The rubber match is set for tomorrow at 1:00 p.m.
The KSU offense tallied nine hits and had eight-of-nine starters reach base safely.
Zac Corbin recorded his third game on the year with three hits. The sophomore outfielder finished 3-for-4 with a double and run scored. Corbin has tallied a hit in each of his last six games.
After posting base hits in his first two at-bats,
Cash Young reached base safely in six-consecutive plate appearances. The KSU third baseman finished the afternoon 2-for-4 with a double, RBI and run scored.
Tyler Simon went 1-for-4 with a double and run scored. The shortstop has scored nine runs in the last seven games and sits second on the team with 34.
Josh Hatcher,
Donovan Cash and
Brayden Eidson all tallied one hit for the KSU offense. Hatcher and Eidson scored one run while Cash drove one in.
The Owls trailed 3-0 heading into the bottom of the third. The offense complied four hits and one walk to strike back and tie the game 3-3. Eidson singled to lead off and Simon reached on an error. Young ripped an opposite field double to drive in one, which left runners on second and third.
Simon scored on a wild pitch to pull the game within one. Cash followed with an RBI single to left to tie the game and record his 31st RBI. Â
The Owls took the lead in the fourth. Eidson led off with a walk and advanced to third on a single from Hatcher. Simon executed a perfect safety squeeze to score Eidson and move KSU ahead 4-3.
Jacksonville retook the lead with two runs in the fifth, but KSU tied it again with one run in the bottom half of the frame. Corbin led off with a double to right center and came around to score on a sacrifice fly from
Nick Hassan. Â
The Dolphins scored four runs in the eighth to pull away with the game. Christian Coipel homered to extend JU's lead to 10-5.
The Owls tried to rally in the ninth, but a double play ended the game with the bases loaded.
