JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Kennesaw State baseball dropped a pitchers' duel to UNF by a score of 3-0 on Friday night inside Harmon Stadium. The loss marked the first time this season the Owls (25-17, 13-6 ASUN Conference) were held scoreless in a nine-inning game. KSU holds a 3-1 record versus the Ospreys (17-25, 7-12 ASUN) this season with two games left in the series.
Jack Myers (4-3) made his 11th start and needed only 89 pitches to toss a season-high eight innings. The right-hander surrendered three runs on five hits while striking out six. Myers retired 11 batters in-a-row from the third to the sixth inning.
The performance earned Myers his sixth quality start on the year. The right-hander now leads the team in innings pitched (62.0) and ERA (3.19).
The Ospreys' starting pitcher held the Kennesaw State offense to a season-low, two hits. Tyler Simon legged out an infield single in the first inning and Cash Young recorded a line drive to centerfield during his third at-bat.
The Owls threatened in the seventh but were unable to push a run across. Young led off with a single and advanced to second when Donovan Cash walked. Zac Corbin laced a line drive to left field, but a diving catch forced both runners to hold. The inning ended by a double play to stall the KSU rally.
In the eighth, Kennesaw State put a runner in scoring position once again but could not tie it up. Nick Colina walked, and Nick Hassan was hit by a pitch with one-out. A flyout and groundout followed to end the frame and keep the Ospreys ahead 1-0.
UNF hit a two-out home run in its final at-bat to push the score to 3-0. The long ball marked the only extra-base hit of the game for either team.
KSU is back in action tomorrow for game two of its ASUN Conference series with the University of North Florida. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m. inside Harmon Stadium.
