Kennesaw State State baseball makes it’s home on campus at Stillwell Stadium. A classic baseball field, Stillwell Stadium, named for longtime friend and KSU supporter Fred Stillwell, has been the home of the Owls since 1984, the first season of Kennesaw State baseball.
Located in close proximity to local landmark Kennesaw Mountain, the Owls diamond home is a tribute to the tradition of baseball in North Georgia. A major part of Kennesaw State’s athletic campus, Stillwell Stadium joins Bailey Park, the KSU Soccer Complex and the KSU Convocation Center as the home of the Black and Gold.
Within the walls of Stillwell Stadium is anything that a Division I baseball team needs to be successful. The state-of-the-art Bobbie Bailey Athletic Complex houses Stillwell Stadium and possesses a spacious clubhouse for the Owls. Wooden lockers with lock boxes, customized stools, an expanded training room; a weight room and large team lounge offer the Owls a vast array of amenities.
The facility will continue to improve as an indoor bating facility is due to open August of 2009. The 4,000-plus square-foot facility will be located behind the center field fence and will include four hitting areas and three pitching areas.
Stillwell Stadium’s most outstanding characteristic is its view of Kennesaw Mountain from center field. The 1,808-foot high national landmark sits in the backdrop behind home plate and is visible from the outdoor deck behind the left field fence.
Head Coach Mike Sansing and his staff have the best view of the stadium from their offices, which line the left field fence. The impressive view of the stadium and its unique backdrop offers coach Sansing and his three assistant coaches the best possible setting to recruit and tend to the everyday affairs of running a top-notch Division I baseball program.
Stillwell Stadium holds 1,200 fans with seating that encompasses the stadium from the right field bullpen to the Owls bullpen down the left field line. One of the most unique features is the close proximity of the stands and the press box to the field. Fans are reminded of the old days of baseball as seating is closer to the action than most any field in the south.
The stadium is 331-feet to the left field pole and is 370-feet to left center field. Straightaway center field is 400-feet with the right-center field alley 367-feet and 330-feet down the right field line. A uniform eight-foot wall lines the outfield and in left field the façade of the Bobbie Bailey Athletic Complex rises nearly an additional 20-feet above the fence.
A 500 square-foot press box can accommodate visiting team media as well as local media and has two private broadcast booths. A large inning-by-inning scoreboard is located in right-center field.
A private dining balcony sits above the left field fence at the Bailey Athletic Complex where season-ticket holders are treated to in-game meals where they can view the Owls from open-air, tabletop seating areas.
The Owls have played 26 seasons at Stillwell Stadium where the field was home to the 1994 NAIA and 1996 NCAA Division II National Champions and the venue has hosted numerous NAIA and NCAA postseason games.
