Brian Bohannon Post Game Quotes

Edward Waters at Kennesaw State Postgame Quotes (Sept. 12, 2015)
Fifth Third Bank Stadium

Head Coach Brian Bohannon

Opening Comments:
“It’s great to be 2-0. Thought our kids came out and flew around early. They were flying around. There was a lot of energy on both sides of the ball. The game got out of hand early. That's the tough part about coaching. We are trying to get better at some things. I was harping on them the whole time. I kind of chewed them out at halftime a little bit. Because there were some things we wanted to work on and get better at. I am proud to be 2-0. The student section, the packed house, was phenomenal. I don’t know if I have been a part of an atmosphere like this in long, long time. I have been at some pretty big venues in my coaching career and that atmosphere out there today was unbelievable. I am proud of our guys. I am proud of this community. I am proud of the university and excited about being 2-0.”

On scoring heavily in the beginning
“I never could be upset about that. There were some things defensively especially, running between the tackles, and stuff we just haven’t been able to do. As the situation came up at half the officials communicated to me that they would look at possibly going to 10 minute quarters, and where the game was at that point in time I thought that was the right thing to do.”

On the play of the defense
“I think the big thing is just swarming to the football. When you have got a bunch of guys flying around to the football good things happen. That's what standing behind them on the sideline today that is what it looked like. It just looked like a bunch of black jerseys going 100 miles per hour and usually when you do that good things happen.”

Feelings on Kennesaw State University’s first home game
“ In my two and a half years here I jog three or four times a week and I always finish at the locker room. I walk out into the middle of that field about every time and I kind of walk around and picture what it was going to be like. Then we got around there and had to wait a few minutes. We weren’t even supposed to come out yet, but [Edward Waters College] wouldn’t come out. So, finally we just said, ‘We are coming out,’ (before the game). As soon as we hit and the smoke came up everything and everything was going, that was kind of the moment. One of those moments you are just like, ‘ Holy Cow’. We are here.”

“It is different than the first game because this one is at home. They are all important, but this one being at home is different. Just the atmosphere is kind of hard to put into words.”
“I tell them that we have got to enjoy these moments because you won’t do them again for the rest of your lives. Not like this. We will come out of the tunnel again, but we will never do that again. You enjoy it, but when we get on the sideline it’s time to be ready to play. I have to give these guys the credit. They have handled all of that fairly well.”

On the team’s progress
“We are going to have to go back to watch the tapes to really evaluate and see where we are and if we worked hard. As you can see, once we got ahead, a lot of what we were doing was inside run, inside run and continue to work to get better at that. It is not that we are bad at it. We just know that to be the kind of football team we want to be there certain things we need to be able to do. As far as the effort and the assignments I know the assignments were better. There is no doubt about that. As far as the effort we will have to go back and look at the tapes.”

On Derrick Farrow, #12, stopping Edward Water College’s touchdown
“Play of the game. Best play of the game. I told him that when he came off of the sideline. It’s a great, coachable, teachable moment for our football team when we watch the tapes Monday morning. That is who we have got to be here. It doesn’t matter what is going on in the game when you get 11 hats playing with that kind of effort we will be fine.”

On managing outward expectations
“I can’t worry about the outside world right now. What I worry about is our football team and what we talk about every week is how we are going to get better. It is all about effort and assignments. We don’t even have team goals. All we talk about is getting better and laying the foundation for our program and doing things the right way. I am never going to apologize for being 2-0. Winning is hard. I don’t care who you play it’s not easy. We are going out flying around with the expectation that every team we play is the best football team in America that day. We are a young football team and we have some guys that can make some plays, but we have to continue to get better every week and whoever the next opponent is the next opponent on our schedule. We don’t control that.”
