Cross Named to All-Region Team
May 15, 2008
KENNESAW, Ga. - Kennesaw State freshman Jessica Cross was named to the Second Team National Fastpitch Coaches Association 2008 Southeast All-Region Team in an announcement made by the organization on Wednesday afternoon. "We are all quite proud of Jessica," said head coach Scott Whitlock. "She is a very talented player who enjoyed a very good freshman season and is well deserving of the honor." Cross, a freshman infielder/pitcher, enjoyed a successful rookie campaign with the Owls as she was a First Team All-Atlantic Sun Conference selection and was also a unanimous All-Freshman Team pick. In her first season with the Black and Gold, Cross had one of the best freshman seasons in KSU history as she led the Owls in nearly every offensive category while compiling an 8-4 record and a 1.57 ERA in 19 appearances in the circle. The Tunnel Hill, Ga. native, started every game this season while leading the squad in batting average (.338), hits (53), doubles (9), home runs (15), RBI (41), walks (23), total bases (109), slugging percentage (.694), and on-base percentage (.435). Her earned run average was the fifth lowest in the conference and her 15 home runs were second most by a freshman nationally and put her fifth in the A-Sun.
