Owls Back in Action

The Owls will compete in the Hawkeye Invitational this weekend

10/16/2009 1:56:37 PM

The Owls will return to action this weekend well rested and prepared for competition, when they travel to Iowa City, Iowa to compete in the Hawkeye Invitational on Oct. 17-18.

"We have battled some tough conditions already this fall with the rain," Owls’ Head Coach Rhyll Brinsmead said. "The outlook for this weekend is a little cooler than we have been experiencing here in Georgia, but the team is ready to compete in the Midwest and take on some solid competition from the Big 10 and Big 12 conferences."

The University of Iowa will serve as tournament host at the 6,202-yard, par 72 Finkbine Golf Course, with the rest of the field including Ball State, Drake, Illinois, Illinois State, Missouri State, Northern Iowa, Oakland, Sacramento State, South Dakota State, Washington State, and Iowa State.

Iowa State is currently ranked No. 33 in the nation and is where Brinsmead called home for two seasons while she served as the Assistant Women’s Golf Coach prior to joining the Owls in 2007.

"After a weekend off the team is eager to get back to competition," Brinsmead said. I personally am very excited to return to Iowa, and to compete against my former employer Iowa State."

The tournament is set to begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday, with 36 holes to follow, and is set to conclude on Sunday with the final 18 holes.
