KENNESAW, Ga. - Kennesaw State junior outside hitter
Sabrita Gulley has earned Atlantic Sun Second Team All-Conference honors. Gulley is the second KSU volleyball player to earn a postseason award for athletic play from the A-Sun and is the first player to earn First or Second Team honors.
"We're elated to have Sabrita's competitive performances recognized among the top performers of the Atlantic Sun Conference," said KSU head coach
Karen Weatherington. "The work Sabrita has done in developing herself as a complete player, from her offensive play to her defensive work to her passing skills. She has been a phenomenal leader on the court as well. She is truly deserving of this honor."
Gulley is the first Kennesaw State volleyball player with 300 kills and 300 digs in a season. She ranks second on the team in kills per set (3.21) and in digs per set (2.77). The Owls have played in 28 matches so far this season, and Gulley has recorded double-doubles in 14 of those. Earlier this season, the N. Chicago, Ill., native set the KSU program record for kills in a match with 24 against East Tennessee State. On five occasions this season, Gulley has recorded at least 20 kills.
Defensively, Gulley's numbers are impressive as well. The junior has had five matches with at least 20 kills, including setting a career-high with 22 digs in 3-2 win over Alabama A&M Sept. 4.
Gulley is the second KSU volleyball player to earn a postseason athletic performance award from the A-Sun.
Ginny Frederick was named to the A-Sun All-Freshman team in 2006.
Gulley and the rest of the Owls will be back in action this Thursday at 5 p.m. when they battle Belmont in the quarterfinals of the A-Sun Volleyball Championship. The A-Sun's premier volleyball event of the year, the Owls will enter as the No. 5 seed while Belmont will enter seeded No. 4.
