KENNESAW, Ga. - Head Coach Brandon Padgett and the KSU Owls women's tennis team announced their upcoming schedule today. This season, the Owls will face off with some familiar foes, as well as adding several new opponents to the schedule, including several teams that acquired national rankings last season.
The fall season, which is comprised entirely of individual tournaments, sees the Owls heading to NAIA powerhouse Auburn-Montgomery, Chattanooga, Austin Peay State University, USC-Upstate, Old Dominion, and the ITA Regional at Athens, Ga. They will conclude the fall season with the KSU Fall Invitational, when the Owls host Florida A&M, Chattanooga, and Georgia Southern.
"We think our fall schedule will give us a good idea of where we are in the Atlantic Sun Conference," indicated Padgett. "We will be seeing several of the A-Sun schools this fall in tournament action, so we will know what we need to do when the spring rolls around."
In the spring, the Owls will start their season with a trip to New Orleans to face off with the University of New Orleans as well as Southeastern Louisiana. The home slate kicks off against Presbyterian on February 5, 2011, and the conference opener is a road contest against Belmont University on March 4, 2011. Included in this year's schedule are matches against four programs that achieved a national ranking last season. In addition to the three A-Sun schools who had a national ranking (USC-Upstate, University of North Florida, and East Tennessee State University), the Owls will also face off with Coastal Carolina in a home contest on February 18, 2011.
"We have a challenging schedule this season, but we think we can certainly improve on last year's results, especially in the Atlantic Sun Conference," concluded Padgett. "We have our entire starting singles lineup back from last season, and have added a very solid player (Alexandra Apostu) to our roster, so we anticipate good things."
The Owls will begin their season the weekend of Sept. 17, 2010, with split squads playing at both Auburn-Montgomery and USC-Upstate.
