All Conference Selctions
MACON, Ga. – The Atlantic Sun Conference recognized four players of the Kennesaw State women’s golf team on Wednesday as All Conference Honorees and head coach Rhyll Brinsmead as the conference Coach of the Year.
Ket Preamchuen, Léa Charpier, Ines Lescudier and Kaew Preamchuen were all honored for their impressive efforts in 2011-12 as they helped win the programs first ever A-Sun Championship.
“I am very proud of this team as the girls deserve any recognition they get,” Brinsmead said. “ It is an honor to be recognized by your peers and we are very thankful for these acknowledgments.”
Ket Preamchuen was named to the First Team for the third consecutive time in her illustrious career as an Owl. She maintained a team low 75.5-stroke average in 27 rounds and posted three top-10 finishes, with her best finish of fourth place coming at the 2012 A-Sun Conference Championship. Her season low round came at the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic was a 68, -4 in the opening round and finished seventh for the tournament. Ket was honored as the A-Sun Conference Golfer of the week Oct. 19.
Ines Lescudier was named to the Second Team and Freshmen Team for her efforts. Lescudier played in all five-spring events for the Black and Gold, with her top finish of fifth place coming at the conference championship. Her best round of 68, -4 came during the second round of the event as it helped Ines tie for the lowest stroke average on the team with a 75.5.
Also being named to the Second Team and Freshmen Team was Lea Charpier. Charpier competed in all nine events for the Owls and maintained a stroke average of 76.1. Her top performance came at the A-Sun Conference Championship when she finished tied for seventh. Her best 18-hole round of 70, -2 came at the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic. Charpier had four top-15 finishes and two top-10 performances on the season.
Freshman Kaew Preamchuen was acknowledged as a member of the All Freshmen Team. Kaew played in all five-spring events and bolstered a stroke average of 75.9. Her best round of 70, -2 was posted at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate, a top-10 ranked tournament amongst women’s golf. Her top finish in 2012 came at the Hurricane Invitational where she placed tied for 10th and was honored as the A-Sun Golfer of the Week for Mar. 7.
The freshmen make up an elite class that was ranked as the No.1 freshmen class in the country by Golfstat.com. The four KSU freshmen, including Minami Levonowich posted an average score of 76.94 to place them in first place among Division 1 schools.
Head coach Rhyll Brinsmead was honored as the conference Coach of the Year. Brinsmead coached the squad to three top-five finishes to conclude the season, including the A-Sun Conference Championship, as the team dethroned three time defending champions Stetson.
Kennesaw State will now wait to hear their destination for the 2012 NCAA Women’s Golf Regional on May 10-12. The Owls will head to any of the three venues, Penn State Golf Course in State College, Pennsylvania, The Ohio State University Golf Club in Columbus, Ohio, or Colorado Nationals Golf Club in Erie, Colorado.
