MACON, GA. – Women’s Tennis senior Vera Shkundina took home her second Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week award this season, conference officials announced on Wednesday afternoon.

The Ufa, Russia native has now earned this award an impressive five times throughout her career as an Owl. She won her first player of the week award on Jan. 28, 2009, the second time came on Feb. 24, 2010, her third honor occurred on Feb. 23, 2011 and her most recent honor came earlier this season on Feb. 22, 2012. The Black and Gold have now won the award seven times in the program’s history.

Shkundina went a combined 6-0 as she led Kennesaw State to a perfect 3-0 with home wins over Young Harris, Jacksonville State and Mercer last weekend. She also extended her singles winning streak to five matches as she picked up three wins at the No. 1 spot taking every match in straight sets. She is off to a career-best 5-0 start in A-Sun play at the No. 1 singles position. Shkundina also went 3-0 in doubles action with partner Therese Lagerkvist at the No. 2 spot.

Shkundina, and the rest of the Owls, step back out onto the court on Apr. 6 as they put their five-match winning streak on the line at USC Upstate.
