KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State women’s golf team will head to DeLand Fla., in search of their first Atlantic Sun Conference Championship. Having a runner-up finish in the 2010 and a third place finish in 2011, the Owls come into the event as the conference’s top ranked team.
The Owls will be led by the No. 1 ranked freshmen class, according to Golfstat's Top 25 Freshmen Class Impact Rankings. The team has collected back-to-back fourth place finishes at the Hurricane Invitational and the Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate with Lea Charpier and
Kaew Preamchuen recording top-10 performances.
Charpier has recorded three Top-25 finishes in 2011-12, including her best of eighth at the Insperity Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate. Preamchuen also finished 14th at the Lady Jaguar and 10th at the Hurricane.
The veteran on the team,
Ket Preamchuen, has turned in two top-10 finishes and five top-25 performances, while possessing the lowest stroke average on the team at 76.0.
The venue for the Championship will be the Venetian Bay Golf Club in New Smyrna Beach, Fla. This year’s tournament will be the second year the club has hosted the Championship, with Stetson winning the title in 2010 last time it hosted. The Hatters have won the last three A-Sun titles, and return much of the same team including the 2012 individual medalist Alex Buelow.
Behind the top ranked No. 61 Owls are No. 66 ETSU, No. 100 Stetson, No. 118 Mercer, No. 163 Jacksonville, No. 173 FGCU, No. 184 Belmont, No. 205 USC Upstate and No. 226 Lipscomb.
