Women's Golf Heads West For NCAA Regionals

Owls making first appearance in the NCAA postseason

KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State women’s golf team will open the first round of the NCAA Regional on Thursday, May 10 at the Colorado National Golf Club in Erie, Colo.

The University of Colorado will host the NCAA West Regional. Twenty-four teams and six individuals will compete in the three-day, 54-hole West Regional, May 10-12, for the chance to move on to the NCAA Championships to be played May 22-25 at Vanderbilt's Legends Club, North Course in Franklin, Tenn. The top eight teams and top two individuals not on those eight teams will advance to the NCAA Championships from each of the three regionals -- the East Regional in State College, Pa., the Central Regional in Columbus, Ohio, and the West Regional in Erie, Col.

“I am so proud of the team and their focus leading up to the Regional,” head coach Rhyll Brinsmead said. “We are here to compete for a place in the NCAA National Championship. I believe this team can earn a place and if we play the way have this spring we will walk away successful.”

The No. 59 ranked Black and Gold will be joined by 23 other teams including No. 17 Baylor, No. 172 Northern Colorado (Big Sky), No. 13 California (Pac-12), No. 26 Oklahoma (Big 12), No. 11 Colorado, No. 53 Oregon State, No. 43 Denver (Sun Belt), No. 19 Pepperdine (West Coast), No. 55 Illinois, No. 68 San Jose State (Western Atlantic), No. 37 Iowa State, No. 40 Stanford, No. 235 Jackson State (Southwestern Athletic), No. 36 TCU (Mountain West), No. 32 Texas Tech, No. 7 LSU, Tulsa (Conference USA), No. 105 Missouri State (Missouri Valley) No. 23 UC Davis (Big West), No. 51 New Mexico, No. 1 UCLA, No. 6 North Carolina and No. 48 UNLV out West.

The lineup for the Owls will be at No.1 Ket Preamchuen, No.2 Lea Charpier, No.3 Ines Lescudier, No.4 Kaew Preamchuen and No.5 Molly Winnett.

About The Team:

Ket Preamchuen was named to the A-Sun All-Conference First Team for the third consecutive time in her illustrious career as an Owl. She maintained a team low 75.5-stroke average and posted three top-10 performances, with her best finish of fourth place coming at the 2012 A-Sun Conference Championship. Her season low round came at the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic with a 68, -4 in the opening round, and finished seventh for the tournament. Ket was honored as the A-Sun Conference Golfer of the week Oct. 19.

Ines Lescudier was named to the A-Sun All-Conference Second Team and Freshmen Team for her efforts. Lescudier played in all five-spring events for the Black and Gold, with her top finish of fifth place coming at the conference championship. Her best round of 68, -4 came during the second round of the event as it helped her tie for the lowest stroke average on the team with a 75.5.

Charpier was named to the A-Sun All-Conference Second Team and Freshmen Team as she competed in all nine events for the Owls and maintained a stroke average of 76.1. Her top performance came at the A-Sun Conference Championship when she finished tied for seventh to go along with four top-15 finishes and two top-10 performances on the season.
Her best 18-hole round of 70, -2 came at the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic.

Freshman Kaew Preamchuen was acknowledged as a member of the All Freshmen Team. Kaew played in all five-spring events and bolstered a stroke average of 75.9. Her best round of 70, -2 was posted at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate, a top-10 ranked tournament amongst women’s golf. Her top finish in 2012 came at the Hurricane Invitational where she placed tied for 10th and was honored as the A-Sun Golfer of the Week for Mar. 7.

Winnett competed in four events for the Owls in 2011-12, with her top performance of 31st place coming at the A-Sun Championship. Winnett holds a 79.1 stroke average for the season.
