FRIDAY RESULTS
AUBURN, Ala. – The Kennesaw State women’s tennis team completed the first day of the Auburn Fall Invitational on Friday at the Yarbrough Tennis Center, highlighted by sophomore
Virginie Stein’s (Gevelsberg, Germany/Gymnasium Gevelsberg) undefeated day at the invitational with wins in both her singles and doubles matches.
Stein tallied a pair of 6-3, 6-2 wins over Mississippi State’s Naomi Tran (6-3, 6-2) and Jenny Hois of Tulane to advance to the flight three championship match.
Junior
Alexandra Apostu (Bucharest, Romania/ Ion Barbu) dropped her first round match, but rebounded to advance to the consolation final with a 3-6, 7-5, 1-0 (4) win over Georgia Southern’s Alexis Prickett in flight two.
Senior
Therese Lagerkvist (Koping, Sweden/ Adalsskolan) and freshman
Isabela Castro (Brazil/ Santa Doroteia) each won their opening matches, but fell in their second round matches and will play in the third place match on Saturday.
Lagerkvist tallied a 6-3,6-4 victory over Daniela Simonova of Northwestern State in flight five, but lost 6-3, 6-3 to Chattanooga’s Kelsey Coots in the second round. Castrol defeated NSU’s Olga Leyshyna 6-3, 7-5 in flight seven, before falling 6-2, 6-1 to Stephanie Woods of Georgia Southern.
Freshman
Blaire LaSure (Evans, Ga./Greenbrier HS) dropped both of her matches on the day.
In doubles action, Stein teamed with Apostu to notch an 8-3 win over MSU’s Alexandra Perper and Georgiana Patrasc, while Lagerkvist and Castro fell to Lamar’s Alicia Porte and Dariya Dashutina 8-3 to round out the Owls.
