MARIETTA, Ga. – The Kennesaw State women’s tennis team fell to Florida Gulf Coast, 4-1, on Saturday, March 23 at the Byers Tennis Complex on the campus of Georgia Tech.
Due to weather in the area, the match was moved to the indoor courts at the Byer Tennis Complex at Georgia Tech.
The Owls drop to 5-9 on the season and 0-3 in the Atlantic Sun, while the Eagles improve to 10-3 and 4-0 in league play.
Junior
Alexandra Apostu and sophomore
Jana Hueckinghaus posted an 8-1 win over Morgan Bechtel and Bettina Botha at No. 1 doubles, but losses on courts two and three put the Owls in an early 1-0 deficit.
FGCU then registered wins in singles action on courts six and five to go up 3-0. Apostu inched the Owls closer with a 5-7, 6-2, 6-1 victory over Johanna Sterkel at No. 3 singles, but the Eagles would clinch the win as Hueckinghaus dropped a 6-0, 2-6, 7-5 decision to Gyanna Mandic on court two.
Sophomore
Virginie Stein and senior
Therese Lagerkvist’s matches were left unfinished with the result already secured.
Kennesaw State next faces Lipscomb in a 2 p.m. (ET) match on Thursday, March 28 in Nashville, Tenn.
