A-SUN RELEASE
MACON, Ga. – For the first time in his career Kennesaw State starting pitcher
Stephen Janas has earned Atlantic Sun Conference Pitcher of the Week honors, the league office announced on Monday, April 22.
Janas earned his fifth straight win of the season on Friday, holding the nation’s top hitting team to just five while striking out four batters en route to the complete game, 4-0 shutout win for the Owls.
“It was definitely well deserved,” said Kennesaw State head coach
Mike Sansing. “He controlled a very good offensive team in North Florida, but the most impressive thing was his pitch count after only throwing 89 pitches in a complete game. It’s a great honor for him for what he’s not only accomplished this weekend, but all season for us.”
The complete game was the first for the Marietta, Ga. native, who walked only one during the win while lowering his A-Sun leading ERA to just 0.70.
Janas remains in the top five nationally for his pristine ERA, having only allowed four earned runs in 51.1 innings pitched in 2013.
The award is the second for the KSU pitching staff after
Kevin Kyle (Atlanta, Ga./Georgia Perimeter College) earned Pitcher of the Week accolades for his complete game, two-hit win over Stetson earlier in the year.
KSU will be back in action this Tuesday, April 23, when the Owls head to Western Carolina for a 5 p.m. ET contest.
