Official ReleaseKENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State women's tennis standouts
Alexandra Apostu (Bucharest, Romania) and
Virginie Stein (Gevelsberg, Germany) were named Atlantic Sun Conference first team all-conference and were selected as the No. 1 doubles team in a vote of conference coaches, the league office announced on Wednesday (Apr. 16).
It marks the third consecutive year that Apostu and Stein have been named first team all-conference, joining
Vera Shkundina as the only Owls to achieve the accolade three times. The duo also becomes KSU's first doubles tandem to earn all-conference honors after posting an 8-0 A-Sun Conference record while play at the No. 1 position.
Apostu registered a 15-4 dual-match singles record, including a 6-2 conference mark. She posted a 14-3 record at the No. 2 position and concluded her four-year Kennesaw State career with a 61-26 (.701) overall mark, including a 25-10 (.714) record A-Sun Conference play.
While playing at No. 1 singles, Stein had a 9-8 overall dual-match record, including a 5-3 conference mark.
The selections of Apostu and Stein mark the eighth and ninth time that Kennesaw State individuals have received first team all-conference recognition since joining the A-Sun Conference for the 2008 season.
Stetson's Diana Bukajeva, was named the A-Sun Conference's Player of the Year while Florida Gulf Coast's Breana Stampfli was tabbed Freshman of the Year and North Florida's Audra Cohen was selected Coach of the Year.
