Inside the Owls Nest InterviewKENNESAW, Ga. – The large cheer that was heard by listeners tuned into the Brian Katrek and John Maginnes' PGA Tour Show on SiriusXM Radio, was the reaction of teammates, Department of Athletics administration and friends to Kennesaw State junior
Kaew Preamchuen having her name appear on Golf Channel during the live announcement of the 2014 NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championship field.
The NCAA Division I Women's Golf Committee announced the teams and individuals selected to participate in the 2014 NCAA Division I Women's Golf Regionals during Monday's Golf Central show.
With Katrek doing a live remote of his daily national show and preparing for the "Inside the Owls Nest" show, Preamchuen and her teammates were gathered around a table at Buffalo Wild Wings Grill & Bar in Marietta with their eyes fixed on TVs anticipating the announcement.
Preamchuen became the first player in Kennesaw State women's golf history to receive an individual berth when she was selected as one of eight individuals to compete in the East Regional at the South Wood Golf Club in Tallahassee, Fla., May 8-10.
"I am so excited for Kaew, the team and Kennesaw State for this NCAA regional selection," Kennesaw State head coach
Rhyll Brinsmead said. "It was so nerve racking waiting for her name to be called. It is such a privilege to represent KSU in the postseason. This is very well deserved and I am confident Kaew will continue playing well."
Three regional tournaments will be conducted May 8-10 to determine the championships field. Regional tournaments are considered preliminary rounds of NCAA championships competition. Each regional consists of 24 teams and six individuals.
A total of 378 participants have been selected for regional competition. Of these players, 126 will advance to the championships finals. Eight teams and two individuals will advance from each regional.
The championships finals will be held May 20-23 at Tulsa Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma and will be co-hosted by the University of Tulsa and the Tulsa Sports Commission.
Preamchuen is in the midst of the finest season in program history as her 73.77 stroke average ranks No. 1 on the Owls single-season list. She has posted seven top 20 finishes, including four top 10s, and was rewarded for her accomplishments by being named the Atlantic Sun Conference Golfer of the Year.
