Tournament Preview
The Kennesaw State women's golf team continues the 2017-18 season with a trip to Columbia, Missouri, for the Johnie Imes Invitational, hosted by Missouri on Oct. 2-4 at the par-72, 6,204-yard at the Club at Old Hawthorne.
 
The tournament will consist of 54 holes, with 18 holes contested each day. Tee times for Monday and Tuesday will begin at 10 a.m. ET off the first and 10th tees, while Wednesday is a shotgun start at 9 a.m ET.
 
This is the Owls second visit to the Johnie Imes  Invitational. KSU placed fourth at the Johnie Imes Invitational and Medy Thavong was the individual champion a season ago.
Kennesaw State was ranked No.40 by Golfweek and No.39 by Golfstat in their first 2017-18 rankings.
 
Under the leadership of 11th-year head coach Rhyll Brinsmead, the Owls have their eyes set on a second ASUN Conference Championship and NCAA Regional appearance in the last four seasons, while also looking to make history as the first KSU women's golf team to advance to the NCAA Championship.

The 14-team field for the Johnie Imes Invitational includes Bradley, Florida Gulf Coast, Florida International, Illinois State, Mercer, Middle Tennessee State, Missouri State, Mizzou, Arkansas-Little Rock, UMKC, Wichita State, Kennesaw State, East Tennessee State and North Texas.

Caldwell  Lead Owls to Third-Place Finish at Lady Paladin Invitational
Junior Madison Caldwell's historic performance led the Kennesaw State women's golf team to a third-place finish at the 2017 Lady Paladin Invitational on Sunday (Sept. 24) at the par-72, 6,278-yard Furman University Golf Course.
Caldwell turned in the low KSU round of the day and season with a 5-under par 67 to finish third overall with a 7-under par 209 total. The 209 total is the lowest 54 hole total in school history on a par-72 course. The junior rolled in an eagle, four birdies and 12 pars during her final round. Her round of 67 is tied for fourth best in program history on a par-72 course.
The Owls posted a season-low round of 1-under par 287 in the final round to finish the tournament at 10-over par 874. The Owls collected wins over Virginia Tech, Ole Miss, and LSU among others in the 17-team field. 

Next Up
The Owls will break for two weeks before returning to action at the Palmetto Intercollegiate at the Kiawah Island Turtle Point Course, hosted by College of Charleston on Oct. 22-24 in Charleston, S.C.
 
KSU Team Notes
Last Time at the Johnie Imes  Invitational
Sophomore Medy Thavong and senior Dulcie Sverdloff took home first and second place individually, and led the Kennesaw State women's golf team to a fourth place finish at the Johnie Imes Invitational on Tuesday (Oct. 4) at the par-72, 7,2231-yard Club at Old Hawthorne.
The Owls carded a final round 7-over par 295 to finish the tournament with a score of 12-over par 876. On the final day, Kennesaw State rolled in nine birdies and 63 pars. The Owls made a tournament-high 177 pars.

A Season of Growth
The 2016-17 Kennesaw State women's golf campaign featured a very young competitive squad that featured four underclassmen and two upperclassmen. It was a campaign that highlighted many achievements for the Kennesaw State women's golf program, including nine top 10 finishes, to go with five top-five finishes and an ASUN Conference Player of the Year. The Owls 299.64 scoring average and nine top 10 finishes were good for second-best in program history. Medy Thavong was named both ASUN Women's Golfer of the Year and ASUN Scholar-Athlete of the Year, while head coach Rhyll Brinsmead collected the ASUN Coach of the Year Award. Senior Dulcie Sverdloff and Thavong were selections to the All-ASUN First Team and the ASUN All-Academic Team. Junior Henriette Nielsen was named to the All-ASUN Second Team.
 
Sverdloff and Thavong Earn Academic Honors
 Dulcie Sverdloff and Medy Thavong were named to the 2016-17 Women's Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar Team. Sverdloff was named to the WGCA All-American Scholar team for the fourth year in a row while graduating in May with a degree in sports management with a 3.77 GPA. Thavong, a Prachinburi, Thailand native carries a 4.0 GPA in Accounting. This is her second consecutive appearance on the WGCA All-American Scholar Team.  
 
Caldwell Advances to Round of 64 at US Women's Amateur
Kennesaw State's Madison Caldwell advanced to the match play portion of the U.S. Women's Amateur Championship at the at the 6,423-yard, par-72 San Diego Country Club on Tuesday.
Needing to place in the top 64 to advance, Caldwell posted rounds of 75-71 for a 2-over par total of 146 to finish tied for 23rd. The rising junior made nine pars and three birdies in her opening round o on Monday. She carded five birdies and 10 pars during her second round. She became the second player in program history to reach the match play portion of the U.S. Women's Amateur joining Ket Preamchuen who did it in 2011.


Tomlinson Wins Florida FSGA Amateur Championship
Incoming Kennesaw State women's golfer Roanne Tomlinson won the FSGA Women's Amateur Stroke Play Championship on Sunday (July 9). Tomlinson shot rounds of 74-74-73 for a 5-over par total of 221 to win the event by one shot at the Sara Bay Country Club in Sarasota, Florida. Tomlinson made 35 pars and eight birdies in the three-day event. Tomlinson secured the title in the final round collecting 16 pars and a birdie to card a 1-over par 73.

Head Coach Rhyll Brinsmead
Head coach Rhyll Brinsmead enters her 11th season at the helm of the Kennesaw State women's golf program. In her time as an Owl, she has led KSU to a pair of Atlantic Sun Conference titles and NCAA Regional Championship appearances, coming in 2011-2012 and 2014-15. A talented golfer in her own right, Brinsmead played collegiately at Texas State and graduated in 2004.
