GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Kennesaw State women's tennis team wrapped up its fall schedule by competing in the Furman Duals this weekend in Greenville, S.C.
 
Senior Laura Hopton led the way for the Owls, going a spotless 3-0 in singles play, while Alexandra Mercado and Jessica Cantrell teamed for two wins in doubles action.
 
The tournament brought together the Owls, Furman, Presbyterian and USC Upstate for the two-day event.
 
"This was a good way for us to end the fall and it's the best we've looked on the court as a whole," said director of tennis Eduardo Rincon. "We've still got some work to do before the spring season, but this will be good momentum into the off-season."
 
Hopton won a pair of singles matches in straight sets over Presbyterian's Henschel (6-4, 6-1) and Thompson (7-6, 6-1), and pulled out a tough, three-setter over USC Upstate's Cevallas (6-4, 3-6, 10-8) for her third singles win of the weekend.
 
Senior Kennedy Craig won twice in singles, while her and doubles teammate Aspen Jarrett won once. In singles, Craig took down Ferrett (6-4, 7-6) from Furman and beat PC's Rowley (6-4, 6-3). In doubles, she and Jarrett beat Thompson and Nuttall from PC, 6-3.
 
The two doubles wins for Mercado and Cantrell came over Rodriguez and Kerman from Furman, 6-4, and Sigaki and Cevallas from Upstate, 6-3.
 
The women's team is off until the spring schedule opens January 20 at Samford.
