BRASELTON, GA. - The Kennesaw State women's golf team posted the lowest team score of the tournament in the final round of the 2017 ASUN Conference Women's Golf Championships at the par-73 Legends Course at Chateau Elan to secure third place.
The Owls posted a 2-over par 294 in the final round to finish at 34-over par 910. The 910 total set a school record on a par-73 course. Defending conference champion North Florida won the tournament with a total of 22-over par 898.
Dulcie Sverdloff and
Medy Thavong both carded a 4-under par 69 in their final round. Thavong made six birdies and 10 pars, while Sverdloff rolled in 12 pars and five birdies. They finished the tournament at 4-over par 223, and both earned a spot on the All-Tournament team.
"This is the most disappointing result in my ten years of coaching at KSU not because we didn't win but because we didn't play our games through the first two rounds," head coach
Rhyll Brinsmead said. "Today we shot the low round of the tournament of any team, and that is the true talent of this squad. Medy and Dulcie played today, and their 4-under par rounds were impressive and earned them a spot on the All-Tournament Team. It's a tough day to say goodbye to Laura and Dulcie. They've represented KSU so well over the past four years, and we wanted nothing more than to win this title for them. Golf is a tough sport, and this result will sting for a while."
Charlotte Charrayre made seven pars during her final round. She shot a 7-over par 79 to finish 13th at 12-over par 231.
Senior
Laura Estefenn played the back nine holes in 1-under par 36 to record a four-over par 77 in her final round as an Owl. She wrapped up the tournament tied for 16th with a total of 15-over par 234. Estefenn was second on the team with 33 pars during the three-round tournament.
Junior
Henriette Nielsen fired a 7-over par 80 in the final round and finished 20th at 17-over par 236.
The Owls will now take time off and return to action in the fall. KSU will be joined in the fall by a pair of talented newcomers in Roanne Tomlinson and Chalakorn (Sarah) Wongsinith.
