Medy Thavong landed a spot on the on the 2017 Women's Academic All-District IV Team selected by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Thavong will now move on to the national ballot for Academic All-America Team. The women's at-large team spans nominees from the sports of beach volleyball, golf, gymnastics, swimming and diving, tennis, water polo, volleyball and wrestling. District IV includes the Division-I schools in the states of Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, and Alabama.

Rhyll Brinsmead said. "To be honored nationally for her academic achievements is outstanding. She works tirelessly to maintain her 4.0. She truly is a model student athlete."
The Owls sophomore was one of two golfers to make the team. She was joined on the team by athletes from Clemson University, College of Charleston, Georgia State University, Mercer University, University of Alabama, University of Florida and University of Georgia.
It marks the first time KSU women's golf has been recognized on a CoSIDA Academic All-District Team.
To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 on a scale of 4.0, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his current institution.
Thavong, a Prachinburi, Thailand native carries a 4.0 grade point average in Accounting. The sophomore played in all 11 tournaments this season and led the team with a 73.81 scoring average. The sophomore was the team's top finisher nine times this season with six top-15 finishes. She picked up her first collegiate win at the Johnie Imes Invitational after carding rounds of 70-69-72 for a total of 5-under par 211. Her final-round 66 at the JU Amelia Island Collegiate was a career-low and is tied for the 18-hole school-record score on a par 72 course. Thavong was named ASUN Player of the Year, ASUN Scholar-Athlete of the Year and earned a spot on both the ASUN All-Academic Team and the ASUN All-Conference First Team.
The Owls finished their 2016-17 with a third place finish at the ASUN Championships. KSU posted nine top-10 finishes in 11 tournaments this season.
