WG: Incoming Owl Roanne Tomlinson Wins FSGA Women's Amateur Championship

 --  Incoming Kennesaw State women's golfer Roanne Tomlinson won the FSGA Women's Amateur Stroke Play Championship on Sunday (July 9).

Tomlinson shot rounds of 74-74-73 for a 5-over par total of 221 to win the event by one shot at the Sara Bay Country Club in Sarasota, Florida. Tomlinson made 35 pars and eight birdies in the three-day event. Tomlinson secured the title in the final round collecting 16 pars and a birdie to card a 1-over par 73.

"It's been a great week for the program," Head Coach Rhyll Brinsmead said. "Firstly, Madison Caldwell qualifying for the USGA Women's Amateur and now Roanne winning the FSGA women's amateur championship. What I love about Roanne's mentality is she expects to win every event she enters. This win is the pinnacle of her career so far, and I couldn't be more excited about the momentum this will give her heading into starting her career as a KSU Owl!"

The rising junior signed with the Owls in the fall of 2016 and will join the team in the fall of 2017. Tomlinson will come to KSU from Seminole State College. As a sophomore at Seminole State, she played in 10 tournaments and collected six top-10 finishes. She opened the fall with a tied for 10th place finish at the Lady Falcon Invitational. She carded rounds of 73-78-73 -224 (+8) at the Jacksonville Classic to finish tied for 21st. The sophomore posted rounds of 75-73 for a total of 4-over par 148 to finish tied for 6th at the Flagler Fall Slam. The Lancashire, England native closed her season with rounds of 74-75-73-73 for an 11-over par total of 295 to finish tied for third and earn All-America honors at the NJCCA National Tournament. She finished the season as the number two ranked sophomore in the NJCAA rankings by Golfstat.
