KENNESAW, Ga. – Looking to accelerate the success from previous seasons with an experienced and talented roster, 11th-year Kennesaw State women's golf head coach
Rhyll Brinsmead aims to continue to take the program to new heights during the 2017-18 season.
"Once again we will play a schedule that will pit us against some of the best schools in the southeast and the nation," said Brinsmead. "We have a great mix of local, national and international events that will provide the team with the depth of competition we need to push us into the post season. We will play in events hosted by Big 10, SEC, and ACC opponents this season. The continued success of the team allows me to schedule events of the highest standard."
Kennesaw State opens the season September 22-24, with a trip to Greenville, S.C., for their fifth-straight appearance at the Lady Paladin Invitational (Furman).
After a one-week break, Kennesaw State continues its fall slate with three tournaments in October. The Owls will head to Columbia, Missouri for the Johnie Imes Invitational hosted by the University of Missouri on October 2-4, KSU will then travel to Kiawah Island, South Carolina for the Palmetto Intercollegiate on October 22-24. The Owls close out the fall season October 27-29 at the Ladies Fall Intercollegiate Invitational hosted by Louisville at the Atlanta Athletic Club.
"The fall will be highlighted by the event hosted by U. of Louisville at the Atlanta Athletic Club.," said Brinsmead. "This is a first-time event at an amazing course with a very strong field. We are excited to be playing so close to home to close out our fall season."
KSU begins its road to the ASUN Conference Championship on February 19-20 at the Amelia Island Collegiate (Jacksonville University) in Fernandina, Fla. for the third consecutive season. The Owls will then make their debut at the Rebel Beach in Las Vegas, Nevada hosted by UNLV on February 26-27.
Kennesaw State opens March with a trip to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico for the Hawkeye-El Tigre Invitational hosted by the University of Iowa on March 16-17 for the second consecutive season.
"The spring will feature a new event for us hosted by UNLV and a return trip to Iowa's event in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico," Brinsmead said. "Both trips will be highly anticipated."
The Owls will then return to Kennesaw to host the third annual, Henssler Intercollegiate, at Pinetree Country Club on March 27-28. The final regular season tournament takes place April 8-10 at the Brickyard Collegiate in Macon, Ga. hosted by Mercer.
Kennesaw State looks to win its first conference championships since 2015 when the team travels to Braselton, Ga., for the 2018 ASUN Championship on April 22-24.
"We will then remain locally to round out the spring," Brinsmead said. "We will host the Henssler Intercollegiate with a solid field and look forward to returning to Château Elan to capture the ASUN title."
The NCAA Regionals will be hosted by Stanford, Texas, Wisconsin and Florida State on May 7-9, while the NCAA Championships are slated for May 18-23 at Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Oklahoma, and will be hosted by Oklahoma State.
The Owls return five student-athletes, including ASUN Player of the Year, ASUN Scholar Athlete of the Year, and ASUN First Team All-Conference selection
Medy Thavong, from a season that included nine top-ten team finishes, including five top-five team finishes.
