VB: Owls Begin Preseason for 2017 Season

8/5/2017 10:17:00 AM

SCHEDULE

KENNESAW, Ga.
– The Kennesaw State volleyball team reported to campus, moved into their dorms and began practice on Saturday, August 5 to begin their 2017 season.

"The team and staff has been working and waiting all spring and summer for Saturday, August 5 to arrive, so of course everyone is incredibly excited," head coach Keith Schunzel said. "These are the moments why we love doing what we do. Every new season brings a renewed sense of hope and optimism, and then you sprinkle in some new faces and new challenges, and this is the beauty of collegiate athletics."

The Owls return 12 letter winners from a season ago including five starters as well as their ASUN Defensive Player of the Year libero Katarina Morton.

KSU has 11 upper classmen to lead the way after claiming a share of the regular season ASUN Championship a season ago.

To go along with the wealth of experience the Owls have, Kennesaw State added three highly touted recruits in Lauren Chastang, Quin Sutphin and Karlee Groover. The recruiting class earned an honorable mention from prepvolleyball.

"With the vast majority of our points and players returning from last season, it's going to be less about reconfiguring a bunch of systems, but more about integrating our three freshmen as quickly as possible into our team culture and making the most of every training session as we continue our journey with our 2017 season," Schunzel added.

The team's first match is at home against Troy on Sunday, August 27 at 2 p.m. to kick off a big non-conference schedule for the Owls that features hosting the University of Georgia, University of Tennessee and Georgia State.
