Young finished the night 3-for-3 with three home runs and five RBI. He became the second player in the team's Division I history to launch three long balls in a single game. The last Owl to do so was
Malik Spratling last year versus Liberty (May 15).
The KSU third baseman has belted 10 home runs in the last 13 games. Young leads the Owls with 13 total on the year.
Jack Myers (4-2) made his 10th start and worked seven strong innings. The right-hander earned the win and posted his fifth quality start. Myers surrendered only two runs on four hits.
The KSU offense contributed 12 hits while seven-of-nine Owls reached base. Young,
Tyler Simon and
Brayden Eidson all added multi-hit performances.
Simon finished 3-for-4 with a triple and three RBI. The triple marked the third of the year for the KSU shortstop which ties him for the team lead.
Eidson recorded a 2-for-4 day with a double, two runs and one RBI. The KSU utility player has started on the mound, in the outfield and at designated hitter in his last four games.
Nick Colina and
Donovan Cash each added one hit. Colina scored two runs while Cash drove in two.
The Owls jumped on the board in the top of the first. Simon earned a four-pitch walk to get on base out of the two-hole. Young then drove a 3-1 pitch deep to left to give KSU a 2-0 lead. The long ball marked the 11th of the year for the third baseman.
Young came to bat in the bottom of the sixth with the score tied 2-2. The third baseman mashed his second homer of the day to put the Owls up 3-2. Young has tallied multi-home runs twice this season with his last coming against Stetson (April 8).
Kennesaw State broke the game open with a five-run seventh inning. Eidson doubled to right field to drive in Colina. A Simon triple and Cash double drove in two runs each to push the score to 8-2.
