Greg Matta

Greg Matta returns to Kennesaw State as an assistant coach. The former Owls assistant, rejoins the Kennesaw State staff after a successful three-year stint as head coach at North Cobb Christian School where he also served as he school's director of athletics. Matta duties will include academic development, scouting, recruiting, game preparation and individual player development as well administrative duties. During Matta's four years with the Owls, the Black and Gold posted a 104-30 record and was a part of the 2004 NCAA Division II National Championship coaching staff as well as all three of Kennesaw State's NCAA tournament teams. Prior to his arrival at KSU, Matta enjoyed a stellar career at North Cobb Christian where he quickly established himself as one of the top prep coaches in the state. He led NCCS to back-to-back AAA State Championships in 2007 and 2008 and was the AAA Coach of the Year in 2007. Last season, his squad finished with a perfect 35-0 record and has a career record of 93-5 during his tenure. Matta was also a successful collegiate player, starring at point guard for the University of Alabama-Birmingham as well as Southern Illinois University. A legendary prep layer at Hoopeston-East Lynn High School where he was also a three-port varsity athlete, Matta was inducted into the Illinois High School Basketball Hall of Fame. Matta and his wife Jennifer have two children, Sarah (18) and Michael (16) and make their home in Acworth, Ga.
